About / Biography

Trip For Biscuits is a Postmodern Jukebox-inspired party band based in Bristol and available all over the South West and UK.

At the core of the band is a deep knowledge of the music of the 1920s, garnered from many years on the Bristol traditional jazz scene, and a love of contemporary chart music -plus the imagination to put the two together.

The entire lineup has extensive professional experience - we turn up in costume and in character, and will transform your event into a 1920s speakeasy even as we play the latest songs by Dua Lipa or Bruno Mars. Perfect for parties with a Gatsby or Peaky Blinders theme.

We are available in a variety of lineups - for example, a vocal/piano duo for a wedding ceremony, or a small, lively ensemble for a drinks reception.

But to appreciate us in all our glory, it is recommended you book the full eight-piece line up - a four-piece rhythm section of guitar/banjo, sousaphone, piano and drums, a full Dixieland front line of clarinet, trumpet and trombone, and outstanding, dynamic vocals.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Mains supply.

We provide PA and lighting.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we bring all PA and lighting suitable for a medium-sized venue (up to about 200 people)

What information do you require about a venue?

If it's in the countryside, we may need more than a postcode - a 'what three words' location is extra useful.

It's also good to know about volume requirements - we're not a very loud band, but it's useful to know if there is a limiter, or if we need to stop playing at a particular time.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely! You can send us a set list, or we can just use one of our own. We are not DJs, but we are happy to play a playlist.

Do let us know if there is likely to be limited internet, then we can download the songs first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

We've played for the F1 at Silverstone. It's unlikely that Lewis Hamilton was able to hear us over the engine noise however.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We were inspired to form by Postmodern Jukebox, but we made a deliberate decision not to use their arrangements - we make our own, and in doing so we are inspired by King Oliver, Duke Ellington, Al Bowlly, Jelly Roll Morton and many others.

The greatest song of all time is 'I'm Too Sexy' by Right Said Fred.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We started in 2015 when an amazing singer heard PMJ and had a dream to do something similar, but different.. and then met an equally amazing 20s jazz afficionado who could write all the arrangements.

We've since established a line-up of some of the best jazz musicians in the country - people who have worked with Chris Barber and Imelda May will cross the country to play with us.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

If you're up for a dance, but also know a little about music, then we love you! If you've heard of Jelly Roll Morton AND Miley Cyrus, you'll love us!

What makes you unique?

This is a band built from scratch - we make our own arrangements, our singer sings in her own way, we have our own way of working. We are not a cookie-cutter band playing your standard function tunes, if you book us you will hear something genuinely different born of love for the project and for the material.

What is your pre-booking support like?

Outstanding! Our singer Laura takes care of all enquiries, and she is efficient, friendly and will try to accommodate all your needs.

We do not work through an agency or manager, this takes £££s off the fee, simplifies the communication and frankly we're rather good at running ourselves.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

45 minute setup

Two 45-minute sets (negotiable)

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, as long as we have a steady power supply. There's only been one occasion when the outside generator was so flakey we kept cutting out, so as long as you can improve on that, we're fine.

We'll need some kind of cover, or quick access to cover, in case of rain.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We generally play from an established set list, but you are welcome to select requests from our repertoire list, up to a limit of 4 songs.

You can select one song for us to arrange and learn free of charge (eg, a first dance), further songs will be subject to a fee of £40 each - they take time to learn and adapt to a 20s style.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

The word 'wow!' has cropped up more than once.
