In 2007 we became aware of a small number of fraudsters trying to collect personal details from some of our directory members. They would send the same email to a large number of people pretending to be interested in hiring services for an event, but they really just want your personal details and then they would try and fool you out of your cash...

We have had reports of a scam emails from "r_rebecca102@yahoo.com"

Be very cautious if an email asks you for any personal information such as your home address, signature or bank details, or if it is sent from a “free” email address e.g. “someone@yahoo.co.uk”.

What is being done?

The MET anti-fraud unit and the police have been contacted and we will be monitoring all emails and IP addresses. We are blocking ip addresses that are used to send the emails to help prevent any future scam mails getting through to our members.

What can you do?

Always make sure to verify the identity of possible clients before you accept a booking. Never give out any personal information unless you are certain of who you are dealing with. If you have received an email other than those listed above which you believe to be suspicious, please forward it to admin@lastminutemusicians.com for advice. If you have given out personal information and believe you may be at risk, please contact your local police in the first instance.

This is a private party and the bands are not allow to come with their fan, and your band will be performing in the front of 500 guests I will furnish you with more information as soon as I know you have an open.
Can you perform on an event that will last for four hours long with breaks ,if not, let me know how long you an perform onstage.
The Party venue is located in Baltimore, MD. I will be responsible for the transportation and booking of a hotel if youʼll like to have one.
Please reply with where you are located.

Beware of the following email that one of our directory members received in September 2008...

"I am writing to invite you to perform in my 40th Birthday party, the party is going to be hold in Denver, CO.

The date of the party is 10/25, and you will be performing in the presence of 50 guests, you will be performing in the presence of the youths, the age range of the guests will be 25-50 years. If you are not available on that day, let me know the other weekend you have available in that month.

The gig will be an indoor event, and it's going to be in the evening, the gig will start at 5:PM and your band will start to perform as from 6:30PM.

Less I forget, I'll like to know the amount it's going to cost to have your band on that day, I was told about your band by a friend of mine, and he'll be at the venue on the show day, I knew you'll have to tell him thank you for spreading good news about your band.

This is just what I think I should let you know about the gig, and feel free to ask me any other question you may have

Unfortunately it appears that a scam email was sent to quite a few of our directory members this morning - the email reads as follows:

"Morning,
I am James.Eventplanner paryloft .
I saw your website and music samples and also read all about you.
i will like to know if you will be available for a wedding on may 8 2010 of my client at the venue is the Arundel Town Hall

Sussex
BN18 9AP
 event space,PA system is available at the venue.Equipment/Services,CD Player, Computer, Copy Machine, Internet (Wireless), Phone, Slide Projector, Sound System, Speakerphone, Television, VCR,1 Windows 6 foot tall, 10 Mirror panels, Upright Piano, Can play music all night as loud as you want
You will play for 3 hours with break intervals for 1000 guest.Wedding starts at 2.00pm and ends at 6.00pm.
Parking,Paid Onsite, Street Parking, Valet (Can Be Arranged), Plenty street parking available.
I will be glad to answer any other question you want to know about the wedding.
Thanks"

We're pretty sure this is a scam - the IP address it was sent from is in Indonesia, and it was sent to a lot of people at once.

Also the phone number doesn't work and they are using a free hotmail account - all suspicious signs. We have contacted all members who received the message - please don't reply!

11th November 2011 - latest update

We have had no reported dubious emails at all since 2011 - fingers crossed we've heard the last from the scammers!
