James Lane is a Dorset-based acoustic wedding singer and guitarist, creating soulful, heartfelt live music for weddings across the UK and overseas. With warm vocals and expressive acoustic guitar, he specialises in setting the perfect tone for ceremonies, drinks receptions and intimate celebrations.

Blending influences from contemporary singer-songwriters with soul rock and pop, James reimagines much-loved songs in his own emotive acoustic style. Having previously trained at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London after receiving a global Yamaha scholarship, James spent years performing on the London singer-songwriter circuit before returning to Bournemouth. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

For wedding peformances, there are too many highlights to mention, every wedding has it's own special memory in my heart.

For solo gigs playing originals, some of my favoirite performances come from playing at The Bedford in Balham; a well-known launchpad for emerging acoustic artists during my time in the city.

Some other favourites are supporting former X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson & playing alongside James Bay.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Some key influences are James Morrison, John Mayer, Damien Rice, Wild Rivers, Jeff Buckley & Ray Charles.

One of my favourite performances is Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley as I love the raw feel and emotion he brings to his music. I also love Just Like a Child by James Morrison as he has so much sorrow and heart in his voice it gives me goosbumps everytime

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started performing on the London singer-songwriter circuit at 19, shortly after moving to the city to study music. It was a real golden period for acoustic artists — intimate venues were packed with emerging talent, and there was a real sense that anything could happen. Playing regularly at grassroots venues gave me invaluable experience and confidence, shaping my style and sound and reinforcing my love for playing live music.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I love playing at weddings because no two days are ever the same — every couple has their own story, their own energy, and their own special moments. Being part of something so meaningful, especially during moments like walking down the aisle or a first dance, is something I never take for granted. There’s something incredibly powerful about live acoustic music in those moments — it becomes part of the memory forever.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Setup and sound check takes up to 1 hour and I aim to arrive 1.5 hours before I start performing. Set lengths are described in the packages section.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes I am happy to play outside but just ask for shade (or shelter if it might rain) , a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

For drinks receptions and evening arrivals clients can choose from my ever growing repertoire list. I take requests for the bridal entry song and/or the first dance, which I arrange a unique performance for.
