About / Biography

Yuwen gives solo and chamber recitals in Switzerland, Italy, and the UK leading venues such as Wigmore Hall, St James Piccadilly etc. At the age of 11, he was invited to give a solo recital in Taiwan. In 2021, he performed The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto with the Ningbo Symphony Orchestra. Have been met with high praise. He has received guidance and widespread acclaim from distinguished musicians, including Shlomo Mintz, James Ehnes, and Tasmin Little.

Yuwen began studying the violin at the age of four under Wang Baihong before continuing his training with Spanish violinist Marc Amengol. In 2018, he was admitted to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Associate Professor Geng Liu and received chamber music coaching from professors Jensen Lam and Yuan Zhang. During his studies, he was consistently awarded scholarships in recognition of his achievements.

In 2022, Yuwen gained a place at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana for his Master’s degree, studying with renowned Italian violinist Massimo Quarta. He also received chamber music coaching from professors such as Pavel Berman, Saiko Sasaki, and Yuval Gottlieb Wich. In 2024, he moved to the UK to undertake an Artist Diploma at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studies with Nathaniel Vallois and Jiafeng Chen.

I started giving whilst at University, and our performances developed from there. And we did weddings, events across the UK and China

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We normally arrive about 1hr-30mins before performance or rehearsal set up for gigs, but up to clients. We normally perform 0.5-1.5 hrs, but happy to adjust depends on the events and requirements.


Are you happy to perform outside?

We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area.


Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We can learn specific songs with no limit, but need to be informed in advance

Introduce your quartet.

Formed in 2024, the LANO Quartet—comprising Shuwei Zuo (violin I), Yuwen Fan (violin
II), Jinhe Huang (viola), and Gen Li (cello)—is a vibrant and expressive young ensemble
dedicated to thoughtful and compelling music-making.
The quartet’s members have been recognised with numerous accolades, including the
Leamington Music Prize, the Sylvia Cleaver Chamber Music Prize, the Ambache Prize,
second prize at the Luigi Cerritelli International Music Competition, and, most recently, the
Gold Award at the Fenix International Music Competition.
They have performed widely across the UK and internationally, with highlights including
appearances at Wigmore Hall, St James’s Piccadilly, and the Leeds International Concert
Series. In 2024, they were invited to perform at the 19th International Malcolm Arnold
Festival, where their interpretation was praised by composer Matthew Taylor. This October,
the quartet will embark on their first China tour, and they have already been invited to
perform at the
