Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We bring our own instruments, small Bose PA system and have our own portable power supply. All we need from your venue is a performance space around 2m x 2m.
We can play indoors or outside just as easily.
It is helpful if there is parking at the venue for one car to make it easy for us to unload.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We bring our own Bose Sound System which is suitable for almost any venue indoors or outdoors. We have played for intimate weddings with just 6 people up to Corporate events in an auditorium for over 1000 delegates.

What information do you require about a venue?

It's helpful if we know about parking and unloading options at your venue. However we will discuss all this with you at the time of booking. We have worked in hundreds of different venues all over the UK and are adept at fitting in to most spaces.

It is helpful to know if there are any sound limiters or restrictions. In most cases these will not apply to us and we can always work within most restrictions but we do need to provide some sort of amplification to our piano.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes we can provide background music between sets. However in most cases we do not take breaks during your drinks reception or wedding breakfast so you will get uninterrupted music from us.

If you require a longer booking then we can play music of your choice through our sound system.

We give all clients the chance to choose the music they would like us to play throughout the day. If you prefer we can also just put together a set of 'upbeat' music or whatever style you prefer.

Will your music be loud enough?

Yes! Our preferred set up is a Yamaha Electric Cello, Nord Stage Piano and Bose PA system. This can be used in almost any situation indoors or outside and will allow our music to be at a suitable volume no matter whether your wedding has 10 guests or 1000!

Can you work with venue sound limiters?

Yes we are often asked to comply with sound restrictions in venues. The beauty of our electric cello and Nord Stage Piano is that we can play at almost any volume. There is in fact more flexibility with that set up than with acoustic instruments!

Do you need electricity?

No! We bring our own portable power supply, which means we can set up anywhere indoors or outside and have no requirements for electricity. We have enough power to play all day without having to resort to electricity. Of course if there is a ready supply of AC power we can connect to that too.

How much Space do you need?

JAM Duo require a space approximately 2m x 2m for their performance. If we are bringing our piano shell then this increases to around 3m x 2m. Please contact us for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

We love every wedding and event that we play for as we understand just how special everyones wedding day is. We hav been fortunate enough to play for Princess Anne at Aintree as part of a VIP event at the Grand National which we did enjoy being a part of.

We travel all over the UK and get to see some amazing places from Barn Wedding Venues to Castles, Manor Houses and Hotels. Its great fun finding new venues and places to play at.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We are both professionally trained musicians, in part our inspiration comes from musicians we have worked with and those we have studied with. The inspiration for JAM Duo largely came from the Brooklyn Duo in the US. Patrick and Marnie are fabulous musicians and we aspire to their high standard of musical performance.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Jules and Anne-Marie both studied music at University. Jules played for this first wedding at the age of 14 while he was organist at his local Parish church in Surrey. Jules has worked in the music industry as a professional musician since graduating in 1996. Anne-Marie has played the cello for numerous orchestras in the UK and toured across Europe. Prior to performing with JAM Duo Anne-Marie was Head of Music at a Secondary School.

To date (2024) we have probably played at around 3,000 weddings between us and currently play at around 250 or more weddings every year as JAM Duo.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

We love playing live music. We really enjoy being a part of weddings but have also played for private parties, wedding proposals, corporate events and funerals. For us the pleasure is derived from making live music together. We pride ourselves on always playing live - we do not use backing tracks or deputy music. JAM Duo is always Jules and Anne-Marie (hence JAM!).

Do you ever use substitute musicians?

No JAM Duo is only ever Jules and Anne-Marie. Jules is our pianist and Anne-Marie our Cellist. We do not sub out to other musicians so you know exactly who and what you are getting for your wedding or event.

Do you carry Insurance?

JAM Duo is part of JAM Music Group Ltd. This is a UK based Limited Company which carries up to date Performing and Creative Arts Public Liability insurance to the value of £5,000,000.

Please contact us if you need copies of our insurance documents. Our equipment is also fully PAT Tested – again certificates of conformity can be supplied upon request.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Generally we arrive around an hour before our performance time. A typical set up with our electric cello and Nord stage piano will take around 15 minutes.
In most cases we do not limit our performances based on time. For weddings our packages are based around Ceremony, Drinks Reception, Wedding Breakfast and First Dance.
If we are playing for your drinks reception for example then we play for the entire duration rather than charging per hour.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We can play outside and bring our own power supply. We also have a parasol to protect us if performing in sunshine. The only weather we cannot perform in is rain - equally we assume your guests will not be outside in that situation!

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We are professional musicians and can play anything. We have over 275 recordings on our Soundcloud so you can hear us play and get inspiration for your own music choices. However we can play any music of your choice we do not ask you to choose from a repertoire list - just tell us what music you would like and we will play it for you.

Before your wedding or event we ask clients to fill out a music form where you can list all the songs you would like us to play. There are no restrictions - just let us know what you would like and we will play it. There is no charge to learn songs or source music if we don't already know it.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

We are really proud of our reviews and there are many across our social media channels our website and google. Recent comments include:

"We can not begin to thank you enough for everything! You were truly spectacular and everything we wished for and more"
"Honestly couldn’t thank you both enough, you are partially to blame for making me start to cry! That music was beautiful ❤️"
"Your music was absolutely beautiful, thank you so much ❤️ I want to get married again just so I can listen to you guys play ❤️"
"Thank you for making our day so special, the music was perfect! "

Do you use backing tracks?

No, JAM Duo only ever perform live. We are piano and cello and can also perform as Piano only if you prefer. We never use backing tracks as part of our performance. We play everything live.

How long do you perform for?

We will always agree a price to perform for your wedding or event in advance. Our most popular packages are defined on our current brochure which can be found online.

Within reason we do not put a time on these events, but as a guide we would expect a ceremony to be approximately 45 minutes, a drinks reception 90 minutes and a wedding meal 90 minutes. If you think your timings will be much in excess of this, please let us know at the time of booking.

For corporate events we will agree an approximate time with you.

What if our venue only allows acoustic instruments outside?

We have an acoustic (wooden) cello which is generally permitted in such situations. Our stage piano requires some form of amplification and so will not always be suitable for venues which do not allow amplified music outside.

However, because we can actually play quieter than acoustic instruments, most venues will make an exception.

If you are in any doubt please contact your venue – we are also very happy to speak to your venue to confirm any sound requirements prior to you confirming your booking.

Do you take breaks during your performance?

We try to ensure our performance is as continuous as possible. In most cases where we are providing music for ceremony and drinks we would not take a break beyond the gap required to move from your ceremony to the drinks reception or from the drinks to the meal.

If we are playing for longer and do take a break, we can arrange for our music to keep playing through our speaker if you wish.

Can you perform outdoors?

Yes we can perform indoors or outdoors. The only restriction on playing outdoors is the weather. We do bring our own parasol to offer us and our instruments protection against the sun. In the event of bad weather (rain/sleet etc) we would need to perform undercover. Our instruments cannot get wet under any circumstances. As a guide however, generally speaking if your guests are happy to be outside then so are we!

What happens if it snows?

If there is bad weather forecast for the day of your wedding or event, we will keep in close contact to ensure it is still going ahead as planned. Once confirmed as proceeding, we will make every effort possible to get there. In the extremely unlikely scenario that you can attend your wedding or event, but we are detained by bad weather, we will inform you at the earliest opportunity and provide a full refund.
