About / Biography

Open Freeway are a perfect balance of acoustic and folk genres and dance floor fillers. They start with the acoustic guitars for an hour of all things Mumford and Sons, Lumineers, Ed Sheeran, and George Ezra. For the 2nd hour, once the sun has set, and you’re all warmed-up, the electric guitar comes out, the volume goes up, and you can sing-along to your favourite tunes from bands like Fleetwood Mac, Queen, The Killers, and Oasis.

These guys will be a perfect compliment to any party but they really soar at boho and festival themed tipi weddings, rustic aesthetics, or beautiful countryside locations.

What's Included:
  • 2 x 1 hour or 3 x 40 minute live band sets between 6pm and midnight.
  • Pre-mixed disco throughout the night when the band aren’t playing ensuring there is never a moment without music. Requests can be taken beforehand or during the party (dependent on wifi or good phone signal).
  • Fully self-contained professional sound and lightning equipment. They just need access to a power supply.
  • Fully covered with PLI and PAT tested equipment.
  • First dance requests performed at no extra cost, however please bear in mind the bands style and sound.

The bands can also provide at additional cost:

  • Early arrival and late finish
  • Acoustic sets for earlier in the day. These are great for quieter moments such as drinks receptions.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Our 2.6Kw PA system and fully lighting rig means we are completed self-contained and only require power from two domestic sockets and a staging area of at least 3x4m but the more the better as we do like to jump around and put on a performance.

We can perform outside but will need a covered area to protect our equipment from the elements and something to set-up on (no grass please).

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we provide all sound and lighting equipment and are fully self-contained.

What information do you require about a venue?

We will need to know what the access is from vehicles to set-up location. Step-free access is always best. Our set-up can take up to 90 minutes, but can be longer if it is more than a short walk from vehicles. We also would need to be informed if the venue has a sound limiter or a sound curfew. Contact details and a name of someone at the venue is also very helpful if we have questions ahead of the time and so we know who to introduce ourselves to when we arrive.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, this is included for free. Once we have finished setting up we can ensure there is music playing right until the end of the night, be it our live sets, or disco playlist. We are happy to take requests in advance as well as on the day (subject to internet access).

Frequently Asked Questions

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We are all in-demand musicians in our own right having performed nationally with pop and rock originals acts, tribute bands, and musical theatre (including the current tour of Cher and School Of Rock, plus numerous panto seasons). We have all also had national and international radio play. Most of us know each other from when we studied at the Academy of Contemporary Music, Guildford around 10 years ago and since then started gigging together at all types of events. We have performed many times together, clocking hundreds of weddings, parties, events, concerts, and gigs.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

As standard we offer a 6pm arrival and midnight finish. This means that from the moment we have finished setting-up we will have some music playing. Our set-up takes around an hour and a half assuming we can park close by to carry in equipment. We are happy to do this around other activities of the day as the majority of the set-up is quiet, with the last 15 minutes being a soundcheck at full volume.

2 hours of this will be our live sets (either 2 x 1 hours or 3 x 40 mins) and for the rest we can provide disco playlists. There will never be a moment without music.

We also offer an early arrival if you would like us to be set-up earlier and a late finish if your venue will let us party on into the night.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We're love playing outside, especially in the height of summer. We do however ask to be covered so that our equipment is protected, with a safe power supply close by. We also need to be on a flat level surface.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We offer to all our clients a free song to learn for a first dance. We have an extensive repertoire which is always changing and growing. We are always open to hearing from our clients what their music tastes are, what they particular like (or dislike) from our repertoire so that we can curate a perfect set list.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

I think this review from a recent wedding just about sums up our whole service and ethos as a band;

They are absolutely amazing! We hired them for our wedding and it was the best decision we made. Jake communicated with us the whole way through the process, he was ever so friendly, accommodating, easy going and very knowledgeable. The band were all lovely and fitted in with our guests effortlessly. The music and singing was fantastic, they all had real stage presence and the energy was electric! Guests have not stopped raving about them ever since! They even learnt our first dance song and performed it so beautifully, we were so moved to hear our song played live just for us and done so so well. The band are fun, extremely talented and professional and they made our evening more wonderful than we imagined. Can't thank them enough for the energy and skill they brought. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Exceptional!
