About / Biography

Sky Ceilidh Band are a 4-piece ceilidh/barn dance band from North Staffordshire with a solidly English style and repertoire. The band was formed in 2008 and have been playing regularly since 2009, mainly for private parties, although festivals, folk clubs, and special one-off public events are also catered for.

The individual band members have a wealth of experience in playing for dancing and an enthusiasm for English music. Glen (fiddle) has been playing the fiddle since 1984 and has played with numerous bands, including Parson’s Nose, Blind Panic, SynTax, and The West Country Dance Orchestra. He has also played for Morris sides and runs workshops on Southern English fiddle style and Playing for Dancing. Jennie started on piano at school and took up melodeon about 25 years ago. She has since played in a number of local bands, including Jabberwocky, and for various morris sides. David took up the guitar a teenager and fiddle (his first love) in mid-life. He has played in a number of folk bands, including north Staffordshire legends Jabberwocky, and is a keen morris dancer and morris musician. He plays fiddle for the band when Glen is not available. Roy started playing mandolin in the 1960s, playing around local folk clubs. He now also plays guitar, keyboards and mouth organ but is Sky Ceilidh Band’s bass player. Roy is a founder member of the Jolly Machine, a well known local barn dance band, some 20 years ago.
