Singing shanties and songs of the sea, with full history and stories of the songs and the life around them!
Based in Dover, Kent
= areas covered (up to 100 miles)
= free travel (up to 5 miles)
A performance space large enough for one man on a stool, and a music stand. For larger venues, I have mics and speaker, but will require a power outlet.
All sound equipment can be provided, lighting is not available.
I will need to know directions and where to park.
Yes, I can play Spotify before and between if required.
Every gig offers it's own joys and experiences. One of my favourite performances was at Blake's of Dover where the crowded cellar bar were all singing along and asking questions during the history sections. I love being able to get personal with the crowd and get them comfortable enough to join in!
I've always been inspired by the likes of Stan Hugill, Stan Rogers, and Sean Dagher. I love the shanties that are easy to get the crowd involved with, like John Kanaka and South Australia, but also the history in songs like Spanish Ladies or Old Maui.
I started gigging earlier this year after a year of busking across the UK, having performed at weddings and other functions too.
I love all kinds of events as they each offer something new. Weddings are great to share someone's special day, but simple pub gigs and smaller venues are fantastic for getting the audience involved!
I normally arrive 15-30 minutes ahead of time, but can arrive earlier as required. This gives time to setup and prepare. I normally perform 2x 55 mins sets, and can play longer or shorter, but this suits the performance best.
Absolutely, given shade and a suitable surface. For larger outdoor areas, I would need a power supply for any speakers.
It's mostly a set repertoire, but I am willing to take requests given plenty of time to learn them if I don't already.
High energy, entertainment and informative. I love to get the crowd singing along!
