I was a guest at a recent wedding 21/06/2026, where the bagpiper performed, and I was genuinely impressed. We booked Billy for our wedding at the Pike and Eel Hotel in Cambridgeshire and he was just incredible! Being Scottish, I really wanted to bring all the Scottish traditions into my wedding day. As soon as I heard Billy warming up outside from the bridal suite window I felt emotional. Billy piped for our guests arriving and they all mentioned how fantastic he was. We also asked him to pipe our groomsmen down the aisle and then to pipe us into dinner as well. Not only is he a super talented piper, he is also a genuinely lovely guy. Billy was recommended by another fantastic piper from here. Billy called me and we had such a lovely discussion about who my dad was and what he had wanted. He played the 2 songs my dad requested, highland laddie and flower of Scotland, finding out he was military he suggested flower of the forest. My wife and I recently booked Billy to play at our 40th Wedding Anniversary Party . Billy and his lovely wife Anita arrived on time. We appreciated how much they both understood how stressful readying for the arrival of 40 guests at our home could be. Billy quickly got changed and in his no 1 highland outfit complete with feather bonnet, he looked magnificent. Billy stood and played at the front of our house while guests arrived. He has a large repertoire of tunes and was easily able to include our specific requests in his performance. Later he played in our garden while guests mingled. The sound of Billy playing the bagpipes was an absolute joy and many of our friends (both Scots and English commented on the quality of his playing). Billy and his wife are a lovely couple, skilled at socialising without being over intrusive. We would highly recommend Billy to anyone who wanted to add something extra special to an already special occasion.

Came across this guy through the internet and made contact and ask for a few melody’s which he kindly did so we could play for our wee nan as she was on end of life and instantly our Nan wanted this guy as she was a pipe major back in Ireland many moons ago so knew a piper when she heard them play

Billy was absolutely wonderful performing for the residents at our lovely care home Elmwood House. He went above and beyond to ensure residents were entertained, felt important and included.

He told stories in between songs which made it a really personal experience.

Billy also played outside windows of residents who were unable to join others outside in the sunshine where Billy Performed and even in the room of one lady which was quite funny and she loved it.

Billy was amazing throughout a traumatic and sad time after the passing of my stepfather, he was so sympathetic and caring.
The whole process of booking a date and time was was easy, as was choosing the right tunes to play, always passing on his knowledge and experience if you are not sure what to play.
On the day Billy was amazing, arrived very early to introduce himself, then get changed and to warm up.
From the start to the finish Billy sounded incredible and I would happily recommend him to anyone and any occasion, a must have bagpiper.

It’s a pleasure to write this review. Billy is not only an exceptional piper, but a very friendly chap with excellent communication. He showed up, looked the part in his tartan get up and was flexible and happy to play as and where needed.
I looked at several pipers online before finding Billy’s profile which I didn’t feel quite hit the mark, the moment I saw Billy play I knew he was the man for the job. The quality of his playing speaks volumes and it meant a great deal to me to have him play on our wedding day. Billy is worth every penny and I’m so glad we went with him, I’ll be forever grateful and will undoubtedly be using him again in future should the occasion arise.

I recently hired Billy for my father’s 80th birthday celebration, and the experience was truly memorable. From the first contact communication was excellent, with Billy accommodating all my requests and ensuring everything was arranged smoothly.

Lovely evening with Billy for my parents joint 90th birthday party made their evening as they were celebrating 67 years of marriage also and Billy had piped at their 60th wedding anniversary.

Right From the start the communication between Billy James and I was spot on. He was so friendly, polite and interested to know about Daniel and I. When I got out of the limousine on the day of my wedding and saw/heard the bagpipes i immediately had a lump in my throat. I couldn’t believe how amazing he sounded. Billy recently played at my mothers funeral. The communication beforehand and liaison with myself, the funeral director and our celebrant were all about getting in right on the day. It couldn’t have been more right, a choice of kilt, tunes and positioning all thought about and delivered to perfection. I should also say that his playing of the pipes is to an exceptionally good level, faultless.

Well where do I start! I contacted Billy to book him as a surprise for my husband to be, Colin. Initially, I asked if he would play outside the registry office for the guests arrival. Billy asked if Colin would be leaving from a hotel, which he was, along with some of the guests who were staying there - they had all planned to take the 5 minute walk up the hill to the registry office together. Billy suggested that he could meet Colin at the hotel then pipe him and the guests from the hotel through the streets of Lincoln to the registry office - what a fantastic idea! I then contacted ALL the guests attending the wedding to meet at the hotel for the walk up to the registry office! Even better was to come when Billy also piped us all back down the hill to the hotel as a Married couple! It was amazing and highly emotional - everyone was blown away! I think that the general public were too. Billy joined us at our reception afterwards and mingled with us all which was a lovely touch - Billy was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for him and he helped to make our day even more special. Billy is a true professional, sensitive, supportive and an amazing musician. Billy played exactly what we requested and came up with a few suggestions too. He liaised with the funeral director to make sure everything went smoothly.
Dad was cremated first at Mintlyn & we had a celebration of life service at St Augustine’s church, Wisbech following this. Billy played outside the church as mourners arrived and he was there to meet the funeral cars as we arrived at the end of the road, he piped us in for the last part of the journey, we were so touched as we didn’t realise he was doing this. He then piped the family into church.
Our dear old Dad would have loved his service, indeed I’m sure he was looking down with love & joy.

What can I say about this man. A true professional. His friendly manner and amazing bagpipe skills are second to none. We got married on August 7th 2021 at Newark Castle and Gardens. Billy is an amazing piper! Billy rang us prior to our wedding to make sure he had everything in hand (including wearing Tartan of our clan). We had a service for my recently departed mother in law in June and from the offset billy was so professional and caring.
He led the funeral procession through the gardens at the crematorium while piping The Kilworth hills and After the battle then followed my mother in law into the crematorium while piping Amazing grace.
It puts a tear our eyes when We hear these tunes but, thanks to billy and his kind words they are very precious to us.

Billy played as a surprise for my Scottish Dad’s 80th birthday. We had a small surprise party and Billy worked with me in advance to decide the timings and what to play and it was just amazing. The range of music and quality of delivery is simply excellent. Beyond that Billy’s love of playing and of people made the day. Billy was outstanding at our wedding at Stapleford park. He's choice of Scottish music and recommendtions were brilliant. My gran being scottish had such a surprise to see him play and it was so special having a Scottish theme to the wedding! He was great at getting family and friends involed in having a go aswell. Billy played the bagpipes for a recent thanksgiving service in Holme next the Sea. Not only is he an extremely talented musician who made the service even more special with the sound of his pipes echoing around the church so beautifully and hauntingly.... but he's also a lovely, sincere and very kind gentleman. He was wonderful and gentle with the widow and had exactly the right sense of timing and humour for the occasion and he was so good with the grandchildren even letting them play his pipes. Billy was fantastic and we were all so thrilled he was able to be part of a moving thanksgiving service for a great Scottish gentleman (who we actually found out at the service was born in Derbyshire!!!!). I cannot recommend Billy highly enough. We contacted several local pipers before Billy and were amazed that he provided the best quote with, by far, the most experience. On the day we wanted Billy to pipe the guests into the church and as well as us out of the church after we were marrIed. However, Billy went above and beyond and l, leading the procession, piped us and the guests on the 500m walk through woodland to the venue and stayed to mingle with the guests for a while too, which was a nice touch.

Hi, I hired Billy as a surprise for my daughter Caroline’s wedding to Matt in Derby, we were not disappointed, he was excellent, such a lovely man, couldn’t do enough for us, immaculately dressed, and a brilliant piper, the guests were more than impressed, would not hesitate to recommend him, thank you Billy, you made a special day even more so.

We wanted a piper for our wedding blessing ( we got married in Gretna Green) and wanted a Scottish feel to it. We were given Billy’s number and from the moment I rang him through to the time he left the reception. He is such a nice man and very helpful. Billy played at my daughter Katherine’s wedding to Mark on 28th May 2011 at Cuckney and he was absolutely brilliant. Immaculate, professional, personable and obliging are some of the adjectives that come to mind but, this piper really can play the Bagpipes. Billy played at our Wedding on 16th July 2011, he was fantastic and would recommend him highly. Billy was dressed very smart and knew how to play every song we required. Hi Billy, Sorry it has taken so long to send you this, but we have been away on our honeymoon and only just got all the photos back from the wedding. We just wanted to say a massive thank you for piping at our wedding on Saturday 8th June in Teversal. You sounded absolutely amazing and I have had so many people comment on how good you was. The bag pipe gives me goose bumps anyway, but I was blown away with it, it all sounded amazing! My only regret is that we didn't get the wedding recorded by video (I would love to watch some of you playing again!). Once again, thank you for making our day as perfect as it was and if I ever hear of anyone needing a bag piper, I will definitely pass your details on!

A huge thank you to Billy for making my father’s 90th birthday party go with such a swing. My father loved the music. Billy had researched what my father would enjoy and it was a really emotional occasion for him. It made the party for him and all of us.

Firstly I would like to just point out that I am not one to leave comments and secondly I was hesitant to hire a Bagpiper from the internet…. But my word was Mr Bill James worth it!!! Having served with the Highlanders and being Scottish, with a lot of Scots attending my wedding. I originally asked friends within the Regiment to Pipe at my wife and my Wedding, Due to work related matters, they could not attend, which left us without a piper. Searching the internet, I found a Piper, but again due to commitments, he too could not attend, but suggested Mr James. From the start, my wife, myself and our guests, were amazed. He was fantastic. His playing of the Pipes, I am afraid to say, would have put even some of the best within the Regiment to shame!!! The perfect manner in which he conducted the pipes and himself was world class! His presentation, friendly and very professional manner stood out! (He was even at the Church before me)!! Would I recommend Mr James….? YES…. I would strongly recommend the Gentleman!!! Without any hesitation I will be keeping his details for any further function or event that we have!!!!! Thank you very much Mr Bill James, you certainly completed our wedding! To that we are both grateful.

Billy was playing at my wedding yesterday. He is very professional, extremely talented and lovely to talk to.
It was a surprise booking for my husband to play at our wedding, it remained a surprise and he was so shocked to hear the pipes as we walked out of the chapel.
Billie played throughout the photos in relevant places to where the guests were and also planned how to pipe us into our meal so we didn’t have to worry about a thing. Everyone loved him, highly recommend to any bride to be, party etc. Thank you Billie for a fantastic job
