The Kindred Collective are a group of musicians creating a dynamic and exhilarating journey into sound. The Kindred Collective offers you a unique package combining sophisticated sounds from the world of jazz with modern pop music guaranteed to make a first-class impression on you and your guests.
The exceptional musicians that make up The Kindred Collective are all professionals in their own right. Having worked with the likes of Murra Massa, Bondax, Bearcubs, Elle Watson and many more. Tutoring at well respected music schools in the north of England. And working through their own musical projects. Although (the core trio - Cath, Ben and Joe) all in the early twenty’s they have just under 20 years combined experience working professionally within the music industry.
Dressed to impress, the band are always clad in stylish outfits depending on the venue and situation. If you have a dress code just let us know!
The Kindred Collective were formed when Cath Short and Ben Chetwood moved from London to Manchester at the start of 2018. They decided to create “an actually cool function band” and enlisted the help of friend Joe. Between them they have an eclectic taste in music that they are able to seamlessly blend when they play. Cath's soulful jazzy voice sits perfectly on top of Joe's looped guitar which makes the sound of 3 extra musicians on stage. All backed up by Ben on drums and percussion who provides bubbling jazzy rhythms to stomping floor filling beats.

A minimum of 4 Power outlets close to performance area, refreshments, food, 4m x 4m for the 2, 3 and 4 piece is sufficient but we will need more space for larger set ups.
Yes, we have everything we will need to bring the vibe to yiur event. If we are playing large spaces we may need to discuss further equipment hire.
Directions are of course essential ahead of time for us to plan our travel. Load in locations and venue contacts would be ideal in advance please.
Yes of course. We always have music to hand to play between sets. We have lots of playlists we have made over the years to choose from. But we're also happy for you to choose the music if you'd prefer.
Between the members of The Kindred Collective, we've toured extensively across Europe and performed at iconic festivals like Glastonbury, T in the Park, and countless others. As The Kindred Collective, some of our most memorable moments have come from playing unforgettable weddings and private parties in truly unique and beautiful venues. There's something really special about bringing that live energy to intimate celebrations—that's what we love most as a band.
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
As The Kindred Collective, we pull inspiration from a broad mix—think the groove and atmosphere of Khruangbin, the storytelling of Fleetwood Mac, the genre-blending of Anderson .Paak, and the textures of Tame Impala. There’s also a deep respect for classic soul, psychedelic rock, and UK jazz movements. Each member brings their own flavour, which keeps things fresh and unexpected.
Who is your favourite artist?
That’s a tough one, but if we had to pick a collective favourite, it might be Hiatus Kaiyote. Their fearless experimentation and emotional range really resonate with what we’re trying to do—pushing boundaries but keeping it soulful.
What is the greatest song of all time?
Subjective for sure, but "A Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke might just take it. It’s timeless, powerful, and still hits as hard today as it ever did—musically an
The roots of The Kindred Collective go way back—some of us met on the university circuit, others came together through touring projects and mutual friends in the music scene. What started as a few informal gigs quickly grew into something much bigger. Over time, we’ve each played everything from major festivals to intimate jazz clubs, and together we’ve built a band that thrives on live energy, connection, and celebration. We’ve now performed at countless weddings, private events, and parties across the UK and Europe, and every show still gives us that same buzz we had at the very beginning.
We genuinely love the variety—from sun-soaked festivals to wild late-night parties—but there’s something extra special about weddings. There’s real joy in being part of such a meaningful moment in people’s lives. You can feel the energy in the room shift when a first dance hits, or when the floor suddenly fills during a classic banger. That shared connection with the crowd is what we live for—it’s the reason we do what we do.
1 hour to set up and soundcheck, but we can be ready to go in as little as 30 minutes if needed. Our standard performance finish time is midnight; however, we’re happy to be flexible if you'd like the music to go on later. Extended hours can be arranged in advance and may incur an additional fee on a per-hour basis.
Usually we perform for 2 or 3 x 45 minute sets and we’re happy to play a bit longer or shorter, but we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best.
Absolutely—we love playing outside, especially when the sun’s shining and the vibes are right. All we ask is for a flat, sheltered area to protect us and the gear (shade or cover is essential), plus access to a nearby power supply. If the weather’s unpredictable, we’re happy to work with you on a solid backup plan.
We don’t take song requests on the night, but we’re always happy to work with clients ahead of the event to shape the vibe. You're welcome to choose favourites from our repertoire, or leave it to us to read the room and keep the dancefloor full. If there’s a special song you'd love us to learn (like a first dance), we can absolutely do that with enough notice—this may incur an additional fee to cover rehearsal time.
Clients often describe us as high-energy, soulful, and seriously fun. We’re known for creating a real connection with the crowd and bringing a big, feel-good atmosphere to every event. Whether it’s a packed dancefloor or a more laid-back vibe, people always comment on how much they can tell we love what we do—and how that energy spreads to everyone in the room.
