Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

St Cecilia's Hall Edinburgh with ensemble Prana.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Dhafer Youssef has inspired me, as well as traditional turkish Sufi music, Greek musicians like Stellios Petrakis and Harris Lambrakis, also german composers like J S Bach and Johannes Brahms.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I am currently a music student at Edinbrugh College and before that privately taught in Bansuri and Ney. Performances started naturally as part of the learning process and my maturing as a musician, as well as teaching and crafting my own flutes. Now I perform regularly in edinburgh and throughout Scotland whilst studying.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I appreciate all opportunities and have also played at weddings, but traditional concerts are my favourite. Holistic/spiritual gatherings like yoga retreats are also acceptable. I am open to discovering more avenues and events provided they accommodate and respect the sanctity of the music.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

If there is amplification, a 45 minute soundcheck is enough before playing time. If acoustic, 20-30 minutes are okay. Typical Performances are 1-2 hours. Occasionally, short *local* Performances of 15-30 minutes are acceptable.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Given the nature of my instruments, outdoor performances are preferred in dry and warm(ish) climate. Cold climates below 15°C are not preferred as they risk damaging my flutes.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I am open to requests in genres and pieces if there are specific wishes. Otherwise I can provide my own improvisations and compositions on a chosen instrument that I feel is suitable or that the client requests.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

They describe them as enjoyable, impressive, and unique as I am the only known ethnic flautist around.
