We’ll work closely with you to make the logistics as smooth as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Performing across Europe for corporate events, including on a private yacht for an exclusive party!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We love performing at weddings and private events where the music becomes a truly personal part of the day. Whether it's an elegant ceremony, a relaxed garden drinks reception, or a lively evening celebration, we enjoy shaping the atmosphere with music that fits the moment perfectly.
That said, one of the things we value most is our versatility—we’re equally at home playing for corporate events, luxury brand launches, intimate dinners, or destination weddings abroad. From classical favourites to modern pop and Bollywood requests, we tailor our set to suit each setting and client. No two events are ever the same, and we genuinely love that.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Petford Ensemble began in 2019 as a string duo, performing at weddings and private events across the UK. Thanks to growing demand and consistently positive feedback, we expanded into a flexible line-up offering duo, trio, and quartet options—allowing us to tailor our performances to a wide range of events and spaces.
Since then, we’ve performed at hundreds of weddings, corporate events, and luxury functions, both across the UK and internationally. From intimate ceremonies to large-scale celebrations, our ensemble has grown into a trusted and versatile group known for high-quality, professional performances and a personal, collaborative approach to each booking.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

We love performing at weddings — there’s something really special about providing the soundtrack to such a personal and emotional day. But we also really enjoy corporate events and private parties, where we get to read the room and tailor the atmosphere. Ultimately, any event where our music helps elevate the experience is a favourite.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Our typical setup time is around 10 to 15 minutes, which allows us to arrive, unload equipment, and perform a quick sound check to ensure everything sounds perfect.
Performance lengths are flexible depending on the event—commonly we perform individual sets of 45 minutes to 1 hour, with breaks in between if multiple sets are required. For weddings and private parties, we usually do one or two sets, such as during the ceremony and/or drinks reception, but we’re happy to tailor our timing to fit the schedule and atmosphere of your event. For corporate events/parties, we usually perform 2-3 sets.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, we’re happy to perform outside! We’ve played at garden weddings, rooftop events, and other outdoor venues both in the UK and abroad. We do recommend a covered or sheltered area if possible, to protect instruments and equipment from weather, but we’re experienced in adapting to different outdoor settings and can work with event teams to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We provide clients with a general song list that showcases the wide variety of styles we can perform—from classical favourites to modern pop, film themes, and Bollywood tunes. However, we love tailoring our set to each event and are very happy to take specific requests. We’re constantly expanding our repertoire based on client feedback, so if you have a special song or style in mind, just let us know—we’ll do our best to include it and make your event truly unique.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients often describe our performances as elegant, heartfelt, and memorable. They appreciate our professionalism, versatility, and the way we tailor the music to perfectly suit the mood of their event. Many also highlight our great communication throughout the booking process, praising how responsive and helpful we are in making sure every detail is just right. Our ensemble creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that adds a special touch to weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations. We’re proud that our music helps make those moments truly unforgettable.

What’s the most unique request you’ve had — and did you play it?

We’ve had everything from Metallica on strings to a Bridgerton-style version of a Bollywood classic — and yes, we played them all! We love a challenge and really enjoy arranging music that means something to our clients. If it can be played by strings, we’ll find a way to make it work.
