Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

My only requirements are a mains socket somewhere near me and a chair with no arms. Also, I'm happy to play outdoors, but I'll need a shady spot.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I bring my own amplification and judge the volume levels to enhance the atmosphere rather than overpower - clients are encouraged to let me know if they'd like me louder or quieter.

What information do you require about a venue?

Any extra info about directions is appreciated if the venue is difficult to find. It's also useful to know if there is parking for me at the venue.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Clients are welcome to play music through my p.a. so long as they have a lead with RCA (red and white) plugs to plug into my mixing desk from their device. Or I'm happy to choose music to play from my device.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

So many to choose from - I've played at some beautiful venues in the south west. Playing for a wedding at the Headland Hotel in Newquay was special, overlooking the Fistral Beach.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Some of my favourite guitarists are John Fahey, Jimi Hendrix, Django Reinhardt, Leo Kottke, Paco Pena and Arty McGlynn.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I've been playing for over 40 years now and have gone through rock, pop, folk, jazz, blues, flamenco and classical phases over those years. I draw on all these influences in my playing. At my first gig in the 80's I was terrified and was told that my face was as white as a sheet!

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I enjoy all sorts of events, but weddings and parties are great as everyone is happy.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I normally arrive an hour before playing, which gives plenty of time to set up and sound check and have a little breathing time before I play. I normally do a couple of hours' playing with a short break in between.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I'm happy to play outside if required, so long as I can play in shade and am able to plug into a mains socket nearby

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Please see my repertoire list. You can choose from this list, or leave it to me. I'm always adding new items and am happy to learn a specific song or two if a client has any requests.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

People usually enjoy hearing plenty of songs they recognise and appreciate the laid back mellow atmosphere that my music creates.

Do you play any other instruments?

Yes, I also play mandolin, fiddle (Irish music) and electric guitar. I am very happy to add any of these to the performance.
