Choosing the right entertainment for your event..

Selecting the perfect event entertainment can involve negotiating a minefield of information, promotional packs and competing events agencies.

Hopefully this article will help make the task easier. The most important thing to bear in mind when planning, however, is this: The entertainment should be chosen to fit the event, not visa versa. 

There are a few general questions, therefore, to which you should have as detailed answers as possible before even googling event entertainment! Who is attending the event? What impression do you wish to convey? What is your budget and how much space do you have at the venue?

When these questions are tackled the next step is to divide the evening into any discernable sections. Note, it is helpful to do this before you begin selecting types of entertainment, let alone specific groups.

One example of an evening structure might be: Pre dinner drinks reception, dinner, after dinner digestives, dancing. Chunking your evening in this way makes life much easier when discerning what forms of entertainment would be the most appropriate. Try to identify the perfect mood/atmosphere to create for each part of the evening and in each different room if appropriate.

Allocate a budget to each section if applicable and don’t forget to take any event theme into account at this stage.

Now you can finally start selecting acts to perform that will be in keeping with your previously identified moods. Different acts might serve to provide a background atmosphere, circulate around the room or perform a spectacle, which may change the energy levels in the room, stimulate dancing or shock and amaze!

Other entertainment to consider might include: Magicians, comedians, caberet acts or dancers to circulate around the tables. Chocolate fountains and casino tables work very well to encourage mingling and socialising. Stage acts might include hypnotists, look-a-like tribute artists or stand up comedians.

About food, guests will remember if it tasted good and if there was enough of it. They will remember far more vividly if they were bored. Remember this when budgeting for and choosing your event entertainment!
