About / Biography

Rob Berry & The Deadbeat is a unique Classic Rock and Blues act that is like nothing else. With his robotic Skeleton drummer actually playing the drums Rob delivers excellent vocals and superb guitar playing. His act consists of many familiar classic numbers but he also switches over to a Cigar Box Guitar and slide that is often described as Seasick Steve on steroids. And just to ad a bit more to the show the Skeleton tells some very cheesy jokes providing lots of fun.

Robs a talented musician who started his musical journey playing classical piano at the tender age of 7. As he grew older, Rob's love for blues began when he was a teenager when he watched Dr Feelgood perform. It was then that he swapped his classical piano for a guitar, and the blues have been his passion ever since.

In the 80s, Rob began his career as a recording engineer at Bermuda Sound Studios, where he worked on Keith Richards' album 'Talk is Cheap,' produced by Steve Jordan. The experience not only helped him hone his recording skills, but he also got the opportunity to receive some valuable blues guitar education from Keith himself.

Rob's talent did not go unnoticed, and he went on to work in some of London's top studios, including Metropolis Studios and Swanyard Studios. Here he worked alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, including Gary Langan (Queen, Yes), Alan Moulder (Nine Inch Nails, Arctic Monkeys), Manu Dibango, Bernie Sumner (New Order), Johnny Marr (Smiths), and Andy Farris (INXS).

As rewarding as his work in the studio was, the long hours took their toll on Rob, and he realized that his true passion was playing the blues guitar, not just working with it as a tech. He began doing session work for artists such as Tom Robinson and Chris White from Dire Straits, using his extensive contacts in the music industry to find gigs.

In 1994, Rob worked as a guitar demonstrator for JHS at Earls Court, showcasing Hughes & Kettner amps, Jackson and Encore Guitars. This gig opened up many opportunities for him, and he soon developed a busy schedule of regular gigs in London and the South East.

After a while, Rob's thirst for adventure took him back to Bermuda, where he landed a summer gig playing at tourist resorts and pubs. He got the opportunity to jam with some of New York's finest blues players, including Poppa Chubby and Big Ed & the Side Pockets at the Oasis Club. This holiday gig turned into a 13-year stay, with frequent trips to Florida and Manhattan, where he played gigs and honed his craft.

For family reasons, Rob eventually returned to the UK in 2007, and he used his wealth of studio experience to complete seven albums. His passion for the blues guitar has never waned, and he continues to perform regularly, always striving to improve his skills and perfect his sound.

In conclusion, Rob's journey from a classical piano player to a talented blues guitarist and recording engineer is an inspiring one. His unwavering passion for music and dedication to his craft has led him on a remarkable journey, filled with experiences and opportunities that have shaped him into the artist he is today.
