About / Biography

We are Jolly Polly and the Pirates party band!
Hello and welcome! We're Polly, David & James- otherwise known as Jolly Polly and the Pirates, a high energy, lively, fun, Suffolk based wedding function band and party band available to hire for your special events!

We've been performing throughout the UK since 2017, and since 2021 as part of Eclectric Music - and what a time we've had, at weddings, parties and corporate events. We completely love it; it's a full time job for us, and we can't wait to share it with you!

Our repertoire is an exciting mix of classic sing along rocking party tunes that we blend with all the latest rock, pop and punk dancefloor fillers. The typical Jolly Polly and the Pirates gig is exploding with fun and energy - with three part harmony vocals and an amazing sound. There really is something for everyone here. We also provide background music in between performances, or if you prefer, we can even provide a DJ with live vocals and percussion, and are also able to offer acoustic music for your drinks reception.

Key to our success as a band is our belief that high quality, high energy, wedding bands and party bands need not cost the earth! We aim to be able to offer a service that can meet all budgets, so do get in touch to discuss your needs. We're also different from other bands in that we can play at a volume to suit the room and your guests. You need it a bit quieter? That's fine. We aren't divas that can only play at, and demand to play at full volume all the time. This is your party after all and we want you to enjoy it!

If you're looking to hire an experienced party band in Suffolk, East Anglia, or further afield that will fill the dance floor and provide top notch live music entertainment... well look no further! You really are in safe hands when you book Jolly Polly and the Pirates, with the very best professional advice and consultations available whenever you need it.

So, for the most highly recommended function band Suffolk has to offer, get in touch now! Or if you're in the market for something a little bit different for your event, take a look at our unique Micro Festival and DJ Polly pages, and remember we also have an acoustic offering- Polly Unplugged, and a live band karaoke "Bandaoke" option!

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Two regular electrical sockets.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We’re completely self contained. We bring our own PA system to all of our gigs as well as a simple lighting rig. For an additional fee we can bring our upgraded lights package with laser.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. We’d also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue. Ideally we would like to know that we have vehicle access nearby and parking.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we’re happy to play music from Spotify before, after and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music. We can also offer a manned DJ set for an additional fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

We're lucky enough to have performed at many weddings, parties and festivals over the years, at many beautiful venues- each was unique and a privilege to perform at.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Each member of the band draws influence from many different artists and musicians- from jazz to punk, hip hop to folk... all bases are covered. We are particularly influenced by The Beatles... but then everyone is!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Each of us started performing in our teens in school bands, and from there we went onto music schools and universities, constantly joining bands, playing with other musicians, or writing and performing solo, and then even teaching music ourselves. We've each been gigging for as long as we can remember. Jolly Polly and the Pirates was formed in 2017 and since then we've been performing at weddings, parties, functions and public events almost every weekend!

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

We love playing weddings because it is such a privilege to be a part of the most important day of peoples lives.

Which one is Polly?

The bass player in the sparkly jacket!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Set-up can be as quick as half an hour dependent on venue. We normally perform 2x1hr as a standard, however, we are quite flexible and will always seek to cater to your requirements.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We're happy to perform outside, but we ask for solid, water and wind proof overhead cover regardless of weather. We will not set up without it. Ideally we'd have a flat, concrete or wooden foundation to set up our equipment on.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We have a repertoire that we have honed that works at every gig, however we are open to suggestions if people have particular favourites from our repertoire. The main reason for this is because some songs, no matter how good they are, or how much a particular person may like them, don't work at parties. We can however learn specific songs for an additional fee with at least one months notice.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Very friendly, professional, courteous, easy going, exciting, high energy!
