Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

String Quartet just 3 chairs.
Jazzy Trio 1 chair.
Violin+Piano Duo 1 chair.
Electric Piano requires a 230V mains socket if required.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We have our own battery operated stand lights. We generally don't need any sound equipment and so are happy to play outdoors if the weather is ok but we do have a PA system and mini microphones available. We use the mics and PA for large Asian weddings playing Bollywood music.

What information do you require about a venue?

We know most venues in the North East but we like a good Postcode and directions to find remote or hidden Churches, Marquees and Tipis.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

String Quartet generally performs at weddings for the Ceremony and Drinks/Photos but we do have evening band options (Jazz, Ceilidh and Covers) and DJ for later in the day. Please discuss requirements.

Do you need any electrical power?

We would only need power if there is a very large number of guests for a PA system. We have battery powered stand lights and generally don't need any amplification.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

How do you choose between so many events over 20 years but The Sage (The Glasshouse International Centre for Music) is always a real pleasure to perform in.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Stéphane Grappelli, Louis Armstrong, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Queen, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Faure, Ravel and Elgar.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

All the players in the String Quartet have varied musical careers with Orchestral, Theatre music, Live gigs and teaching and continue to perform at all sorts of events and concerts.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

String Quartets are ideal for wedding ceremonies and drinks receptions afterwards and it's such a pleasure to be part of such wonderful occasions.

What is the line-up of a String Quartet?

String Quartet is 2 Violins, 1 Viola and a Cello.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We arrive 30 minutes before the ceremony start time and play as guests enter the ceremony room. We often play during the wedding ceremony and if required during the drinks reception afterwards (generally 90 minutes).
Pack down: 10 minutes

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, we try to play outside especially during the summer months if the weather is ok. We can move quickly and easily if there is a change in the weather.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We have arranged over 500 tunes by special request over the last 20 years and so now have a vast repertoire. Clients may choose whatever music they like, especially for the ceremony. There's no charge for new requests but we need time to arrange the music.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Our testimonials speak of how the String Quartet sets the scene for the wedding and guests love the fact that we can play all sorts of modern popular songs and music from films.

Can we request a special tune to be played at the wedding?

Yes, we arrange all our own music and have built up a large repertoire based on special requests over the years. We just need some notice as it takes a long time to sort each tune and we can be very busy in the summer months.
