This is a sample set list, there are many more possibilities in addition to custom requests which are very welcome. I’m adding new material all the time so this list will be updated on a regular basis.
1 need a performance space of at least 3 meters x 2 metres. I require 1 x 13 amp power sockets and 1 parking space.
Yes, I’m completely self contained. I bring my own PA system to all of our gigs.
I need to know any directions that will help me find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment.
Yes, I’m happy to play music from Spotify or Apple Music before, after and between our sets. I can provide a disco after the live performance.
I’m happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music.
I’ve done several great gigs around the UK and Europe over many years. I’ve had the pleasure of playing some amazing venues but one that really stands out to me for atmosphere and history is the 100 Club, Oxford Street, London
As a saxophonist I like and am influenced to a certain extent by the classic American players from the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s such as Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster along with more recent players who have who have contributed to some of most iconic recordings and established the sax as leading voice in today’s music, Michael Brecker and Kenny G for example.
My musical tastes span many decades and several genres so it is difficult for me to say what is the greatest song of all time. I like to perform songs with a strong melody line and an infectious rhythm which are considered as timeless classics regardless of when they originated, I find these selections resonate with audiences of all ages.
I started gigging in my early twenties around jazz venues in my home town of Nottingham and went on to perform at Alton Towers Theme park and entertaining passangers on Brittany Ferries.
Also, I have extensively toured leading UK jazz clubs and festivals and have performed at many private and corporate events.
Any event where the guests are up for enjoying themselves.
Yes, in addition to tenor, alto and soprano saxes I also play clarinet (I’m often asked to play Acker Bilk’s “Stranger on the Shore”
Yes, I regularly perform with various bands and organise my own ensembles ranging from 2 to 6 piece covering a wide range of styles.
I normally arrive 1-2 hours before the performance to set up. I normally perform 2 x 45 minutes or 2 x 60 minute sets. We’re happy to play a bit longer or shorter but we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best."
I’m happy to play outside but I would ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area.
The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let me choose the music for them. I’m also open to requests and suggestions and will endeavour to perform as many of these as possible.
Based on feedback from recent gigs my clients regularly highlight my varied selection of material striving to involve audiences of differing age groups and also my ability to pitch the performance to ideally suit the venue and event.
I can play sax only or I can sing a few songs as well. It all depends on the mood of the event.
It may be more appropriate just play sax for background music during a drinks reception or meal whereas a few vocals may help to liven things up later on. The choice is entirely yours but I’m happy to advise on any aspect of the performance and the material used. It sometimes works better to “read the room” and make decisions as we go.
