About / Biography

Whether you choose the traditional string quartet or a smaller ensemble, we perform a variety of styles of music to suit your occasion. If we don't already have it, just ask and it may be possible to do a bespoke arrangement of your favourite piece.

We often perform pop covers, a 'Bridgerton Style', musicals, and of course, the classical repertoire.

String Quartet - Our quartet brings a wealth of experience and all play in a huge variety of settings as well as in the quartet. All our musicians have professional orchestral experience and perform nationally throughout the UK.

String Trio - We can provide a smaller ensemble consisting of two violins and a cello, or a violin, a viola and a cello.

String Duo - For a smaller setting, consider one of our string duos. No compromising on sound, they are ideal for smaller events

Solo Violin - Acoustic solo violinists available - perfect for a classic addition to a wedding ceremony

Central Strings was founded by Sarah - violinist, conductor and a former Director of Music in the British Army.

Artists worked with include Alicia Keys, Sigala, Andrea Bocelli, Freya Ridings, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Nicola Roberts, Sheridan Smith, Anton DuBeke, Shane Ritchie, Beverly Knight, Heather Small, Katherine Jenkins, Bryn Terfel, Take That, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Elbow, Steve Winwood, Olly Murs, Paloma Faith, Nicole Scherzinger, Jason Donovan, Mica Paris and Diana Ross.

TV Broadcasts include performances from The Royal Albert Hall, Platinum Party at the Palace 2022, BBC broadcasts for the 75th anniversaries of VE and VJ Day and the Coronation Concert at the Castle 2023.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We need 4 chairs without arms for the quartet (less for the other ensembles). If performing outside, we need to have some cover. Parking for two cars requested.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Not needed

What information do you require about a venue?

Directions, parking, any refreshments or meals provided. A point of contact at the venue.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We don't provide this, but you are welcome to have other music between our sets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

It would either have to be the King's Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle or the Platinum Jubilee Party at the Palace for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Far too many influences to mention - extremely diverse, you may be surprised!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We have all performed professionally for many years and met through orchestral playing. We have since formed our own group as well as continuing our orchestral and other ensemble work. We have performed at concerts, dinner nights, fundraisers, weddings, parties and corporate events across the UK. We have all performed internationally.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

Concerts are always huge fun but we enjoy performing diverse ranges of music everywhere, whether that is as a solo violinist for a small wedding ceremony or as a quartet in a bigger venue.

Do you always use the same line-up of musicians

We aim to use our core players but we have a wider team of players so we are able to provide more than one ensemble at a time where required.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We usually arrive and set up around 45 mins before we play. For sets of 2 hours or more, we would take a short break every hour.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We are happy to to but must be under cover as rain or too much sun can cause significant damage to our instruments.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We are happy to provide a mix in line with the clients' wishes. Equally, if you are happy to leave it to us, we will provide a balanced programme suitable to the occasion. If there is anything you specifically do not wish to hear, it's always helpful to let us know in advance.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

'The quartet added the perfect ambience and a touch of class to the occasion'
