Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

The highlight of my career so far was performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival, where I had the privilege of playing to an audience of 40,000. It was an incredible experience to share the stage with the award-winning Blue Note group US3, and to be part of such a legendary festival.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

My musical influences span a wide range of genres and eras, with my biggest influence being John Coltrane. Other key figures who have shaped my style include jazz legends like Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, and Charlie Parker. I also draw inspiration from artists such as Tom Waits, Rickie Lee Jones, and Joni Mitchell. Additionally, classical composers like Borodin, Rachmaninoff, Sartre, and Debussy have had a significant impact on my musical approach.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

"I am self-taught, but I was fortunate to receive invaluable lessons and guidance from renowned musicians, who provided me with great advice and practice materials. I later pursued formal education, earning a jazz degree with a 2:1 upper-class score. With over 25 years of gigging experience, I have had the privilege of performing in a variety of settings, continually honing my skills and expanding my musical knowledge.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

My favourite type of event to perform at is one where the audience is fully engaged, enjoying the performance, and immersed in the energy of the occasion. Whether it’s a wedding, a party, or a dedicated jazz gig, I thrive in environments where the crowd is dancing, connecting with the music, and truly vibing with the atmosphere.
