About / Biography

Giles Stelfox creates the music of a solo-artist with the sound of a band; he is a highly experienced live musician based in Reading, UK. Challenging the definition of live performance, Giles live loops arrangements of songs from scratch, whilst still showcasing his charisma and attention-grabbing energy to connect with any crowd at any event. Giles has been featured and acclaimed by BBC Introducing, and has been a semi-finalist for The Pilton Stage Glastonbury competition in 2022, performing in front of founder, Sir Michael Eavis. He has had over 130 engagements in 2024 including high level corporate events, weddings and private parties across the UK.

For his covers sets, expect modern takes on classic covers and sing-along anthems with a set list ranging from 70s hits all the way to modern day. Highlights include: 'Ho Hey!', 'Wake Me Up', 'Tainted Love', 'Get Lucky', As It Was', 'Take Me Home (Country Roads)' and 'All Night Long'. Giles' set lists are tailored to each event; whether it's a wedding ceremony, chilled afternoon bar set, outdoor festival or high energy corporate party. Giles' solo live setups are acoustic guitar driven live looping sets with the addition of drum machines and percussion. He travels with his own PA and lighting, all fully self contained, PLI insured and PAT tested.

"An ingenious artist who manages to flesh out his pop songs with just himself and his own wizardry" - Shaun Keaveny, BBC Radio 6.

Giles' covers repertorie consists of 200 songs. Included are a mixture of pop, soul, Rn'B, indie, Britpop, country and rock tunes from several decades: 1960s, 1970s, 1980s all the way to present day. He takes requests especially for weddings and private parties, with a two week turnaround for new songs minimum. Typical sets are 2x45' or 3x45' but he can perform up to 5 hours, with enough material to accommodate. Giles also has a DJ style playlist in between sets, so there is always music across the entire booking, even during breaks, setup and pack down.

Giles is a trained sound engineer and travels with a large 3400w PA system with subwoofer to suit up to 200 people, or a small outdoor festival stage. He also has a selection of immersive LED lighting to transform any venue into the perfect atmosphere.

Access information would be required (i.e. if a venue requires significant walking distance for access).
If the venue requires an early load in.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Each 'DJ' playlist is suited to each event, from relaxed acoustic music to upbeat pop hits.

Where is Giles from and how far will he travel?

I am based in Reading and will travel to all corners of the UK. I will also travel abroad for weddings and private events. 400 miles round trip is typically the limit before accommodation will need to be booked. Regional gigs usually don't have any travel costs added on, but this may be the case for gigs further away. Get in touch for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Glastonbury 2022! I performed an acoustic set on one of the smaller stages. Meeting Michael Eavis (Glastonbury founder) was an incredible honour too!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

My live set is mostly influenced by Ed Sheeran; his looping techniques and how he builds songs have inspired my performance and I even perform a number of his most well known songs!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have been performing and producing music since I was very young, and I started as a solo artist with a few pub gigs. I am now fully professional as a solo performer and in high demand with close to 140 gigs per year, and over 300 in total.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I LOVE performing at weddings, especially evening sets. I bring the energy with upbeat party tunes and my live looping set with a band-like sound. Plus, my lighting rig and high end PA ensures that the party both looks and sounds amazing!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Arrival between 60' to 90' before the performance to set up, depending on type of event. Normal sets are 2 x 45' for most performances or 2 x 60' for Wedding evening entertainment sets. Additional sets are also available, usually 4 sets is the max I'd recommend.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, but there must be an alternative location if adverse weather is forecast. If there are no alternative locations, cover must be provided. Power must be available, my setup is not battery powered. In hotter conditions, shade will be required to prevent equipment from overheating and failing mid-performance.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I can take between 3 -5 new song requests for each event, with no less than two weeks notice and depending on arrangement (I am only a solo performer so please do not request Bohemian Rhapsody!).
You can also pick songs from my list of over 200 covers, then I will put together a song list based on the song choices and event suitability. I do not perform prescribed set lists as most events need adaptability, but I am very experienced picking the perfect song for each moment!

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

My performances are described by audiences as a solo performance that sounds like a band! Most people love the adaptability of each set to suit the moment perfectly; whether it's a relaxed cocktail hour, or an upbeat dance floor filling party set and everywhere in between! They love the slick performances of covers that they love, with the live looping spectacle, and at a controlled volume. They also love the extra-mile that I go to provide ambient lighting and a great sounding PA which sets me apart from other singing guitarists.

How loud is the performance?

I always read the room and almost never get complaints about volume (usually I get asked to turn it up!). Although I travel with a monster PA system,I am a very skilled sound engineer who goes as far as measuring the decibel level for every gig to make sure it is within safe limits. The goal is to fill the room with music, but at a comfortable level for each type of event.

Will Giles travel abroad?

I will travel abroad for events. Weddings are the most common overseas gigs. These events are highly bespoke so please get in touch with me if you plan to book an abroad gig. Typically, quotes will be made excluding travel and equipment hire.
