Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I have performed in all sorts of locations - from large lively pubs, through to back garden hoe downs, and each gig I play has been special to me in it's own way. I love nothing more than to sing my heart out for people. The best gig I play is at a local beer festival. This event is incredibly special to me, as they took a chance on me back in 2012 and offered me my first ever live gig. Every year that I am asked back I feel incredibly grateful, without them I wouldn't be doing what I love.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

My musical education has been largely shaped by my parents, when I was young they would listen to bands like Dire Straits, Queen, James Taylor and Jim Croche on long car journeys. So from a young age I fell in love with the big sounds of a live band, particularly the sounds of the guitar. Now I am older my tastes are still just as eclectic. I love listening to the husky tones and poignant messaging of Pink!, the sultry tones of George Ezra, the power of Country and artists such as Dolly Parton. My truest love though has to be Indie and rock, this is where my heart is happiest, from the emotions of Kings of Leon to the energy of the Foo Fighters. I love nothing more than to shock my audiences by performing songs that would be unexpected of an acoustic artist!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have been singing since the age of 4, when I was picked to play Mary in the School nativity. I had classical vocal lessons through my pre-teen and teenage years, to develop my technique and properly support my sound. It wasn't until the end of University when I start to pick up the guitar. Fortunately my God Father is an incredible guitarist and he taught me how to play chords to support my vocals. In 2012, a local beer festival gave me my first taste of playing live with my guitar. It was a bit hectic, but I was bitten by the bug and I have built on this experience ever since. I've sung in choirs, and fronted a funk band, but I always come back to playing solo.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

Honestly, I love to play anywhere anyone wants me. I love a lively pub gig, or a back garden hoe down, but I would have to say playing at weddings does have that special something extra that seems to lift a performance to a new level. Being a part of such a big, special event, when a couple make such life changing promises to one another is truly special, with everyone being so happy, and the room so full of love!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Typically I will arrive at a venue between 60-90 minutes before a performance, to ensure that I am properly set up and warmed up to provide the best performance that I can.
I will usually play 2 x sets of 45 minutes, or this can be broken in to 3 x 30 minute sets. I am happy to play longer than this so long as this is communicated clearly well in advance of the performance. I will usually need at least a 15 minute break between my sets.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I am happy to play outside, so long as it can be assured that me and my equipment will be under cover in adverse weather conditions. I also ask for a flat level surface, and a power supply close to where I am performing.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Clients are more than welcome to pick the set list from my repertoire, or at least tell what I have to include and whether there are any songs that they really don't want to be played, or they can let me choose the sets for them. I can learn specific songs, so long as sufficient notice of this is given before the event (at least 4 months), and I do limit this to 4 songs.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous customers have commented that my vocals are fantastic, and that my sound provided the perfect back drop to their event.

Will you tailor your sets?

Yes. I love nothing more than having thorough conversations with my clients prior to an event to properly understand the vision and requirements of the event. You tell me the artists and songs that you like and I will do what I can to accommodate this request. I have a repertoire of over 200 songs to choose from.

What if my budget won't stretch to your listed prices

I get this question a lot, and I appreciate that your budget is important. For context, my prices are set based on the performance time for the event, travel to and set up at the venue, as well as the rehearsal time to make sure my performances are the absolute best that I can give. The prices also cover practical things such as business costs and insurances, so they are carefully calculated. Having said this, please do reach out to me so that we can at least have a conversation to see if what you require can fit in to the budget that you are working to.
