About / Biography

Hi, I’m Ian — a professional drummer, session musician and drum educator based in Rushden, Northamptonshire.

I’ve been playing drums for over 15 years and have had the privilege of serving across churches, live events, tours, studio sessions and private tuition.

My approach to drumming has always been simple: serve the music, lock into the groove and bring excellence every single time.

I specialise in:

  • Live performances
  • Church / worship events
  • Tours and concerts
  • Studio recording sessions
  • Rehearsals and MD support
  • Drum tuition (beginner to advanced)

Over the years I’ve performed in a wide range of settings — from intimate worship gatherings to large-scale concert venues and festivals.

I’m comfortable playing with click tracks, backing tracks, loops and musical direction cues, making me a reliable choice for modern live productions.

Stylistically, I’m versatile and can adapt quickly across:

  • Gospel / Contemporary Christian
  • Worship
  • Afrobeat / Afrofusion
  • R&B / Soul
  • Pop
  • Funk
  • Rock

Clients and musical directors often appreciate my professionalism, preparation and musical sensitivity. I understand that great drumming isn’t just about chops — it’s about timing, dynamics, listening and making the entire band sound better.

Whether you need a dependable drummer for a one-off event, a tour, a recording session or ongoing musical support, I’d love to hear more about your project.

Available for bookings across Northamptonshire, London, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and wider UK travel.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

For live performances, I typically require a safe performance space large enough for a drum kit and hardware (minimum approx. 2m x 2m), access to at least one power socket if using electronic equipment, and suitable load-in / parking access. For larger productions using click tracks, backing tracks or in-ear monitoring, advance technical coordination may be required.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I do not typically provide full PA or lighting equipment, as this is usually supplied by the venue, production team or event organiser. However, I can provide certain personal technical equipment for playback, click tracks and monitoring where required.

What information do you require about a venue?

I appreciate knowing the venue address, parking / load-in access, stage or performance area size, set times, available backline, and whether there are any sound restrictions or curfews. For larger events, details about the technical setup (PA, monitors, playback and in-ear systems) are also helpful.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, I do not currently offer a dedicated DJ or Spotify service. However, I’m happy to work alongside DJs, event coordinators or production teams to help ensure smooth transitions between sets.

What do you need from the venue?

I typically require enough space for a drum setup, access to power if needed, and clear load-in access. Technical requirements may vary depending on the event setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

One of the standout gigs for me was playing at Festival of Life at the Excel in London in front of thousands. The energy in the room was unreal and it was a real honour to be part of something on that scale. I’ve also had the privilege of touring and playing alongside incredible artists and ministries across the UK, which has helped shape me massively as a musician.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I’ve been influenced by a wide range of artists and drummers across gospel, worship, pop and contemporary music. Drummers and musicians such as Aaron Spears, Calvin Rodgers, Chris Coleman and Eric Moore have all inspired me in different ways. I love artists who combine excellence, feel and musicality. Picking the greatest song of all time is tough, but songs that genuinely move people emotionally and spiritually always stand out to me.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started playing drums in church from a young age, and over the years that naturally grew into session work, live events, weddings, corporate functions, recordings and touring. I’ve now been playing for well over a decade and have worked in a wide range of musical settings, from intimate private events to large-scale productions. My approach has always been simple: serve the music, bring excellence and make the artist or client sound their best.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I genuinely enjoy a variety of events, but I especially love live concerts, worship events, weddings and corporate functions. I enjoy environments where great musicianship, energy and connection matter. Whether the brief is high-energy, tasteful support or something more dynamic, I love helping create memorable moments through music.

Do you play with artists/bands or as a solo session drummer?

I primarily work as a freelance session drummer, performing live with artists, bands, churches and corporate events. I’m equally comfortable slotting into an existing band or supporting a full production setup with tracks and click.

What makes you different from other drummers?

I bring strong timing, musical sensitivity and a professional attitude. For me, it’s never just about chops—it’s about serving the song, supporting the artist and helping create the right atmosphere.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Setup times vary depending on the event, venue and technical requirements, but I typically aim to arrive 60–120 minutes before performance time to allow for setup, soundcheck and any final checks. Performance length can vary from single-song appearances and short sets to full events, rehearsals, live shows or extended sessions, depending on the client’s needs.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, I’m happy to perform outdoors provided the setup is safe and suitable for both the equipment and performance. Ideally this includes a flat, stable surface, weather protection (if needed), access to power and adequate cover for instruments/electronic equipment.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely — I always work closely with clients to understand the musical direction they want. Whether you already have a specific set list, need help curating songs, or want me to support an artist/band musically, I’m flexible and happy to adapt to the requirements of the event.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients often describe my playing as tasteful, energetic, musical and highly professional. I’m known for strong pocket, great dynamics and knowing when to support the music versus when to elevate the energy. Clients also appreciate my preparation, reliability and calm approach on and off stage.

Can you learn songs before an event?

Absolutely. I pride myself on preparation, so I’m happy to learn setlists in advance, whether that’s original music, covers, worship sets or corporate material.

Do you perform with click tracks or backing tracks?

Yes — I’m experienced playing with click tracks, stems and playback rigs, which helps keep live performances tight and professional.
