Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

• A performance area large enough to comfortably accommodate my upright column speakers, sound desk, and performance space. This should ideally be located away from high-traffic guest walkways and passing foot traffic.
• Power: Reliable access to standard electricity power points near the performance area.
• Timings: Sufficient access to the space prior to guest arrival to load in, safely set up, and perform a clear sound check.
• Parking & Load-in: One dedicated parking space located close to the venue's entrance/load-in point to allow for the safe transport of audio equipment.
• Hospitality: Access to a secure changing room or private area to prepare

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Self-contained, I use the latest Bose upright systems, the L1 Pro32 and Pro8. I also have the compact, battery-powered Bose S1 speaker — which is ideal for doorstep singing or, as I used it recently, on a canal cruise. I utilise both vintage-style cabled microphones and wireless radio mics for when cables are not ideal. Additionally, I am always happy to work with in-house sound systems or event-hired sound technicians and their equipment when a larger setup is required.

What information do you require about a venue?

Sufficient time to set up in an area large enough to perform, with a changing room/area, and access to electricity points. Refreshments please, depending on how long the event is on for.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, if the wifi password is provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Best Gig (split between): The immense honour of singing to the nation on BBC Radio for VE75 & VE80, and sharing the stage with Dame Mary Berry at a World Record Event hosted by the National Trust.
Best Venue: The Guards Museum, right next door to Buckingham Palace, was a special experience — as was singing under the wings of Concorde for a truly unforgettable evening to honour the last Dambuster, the late Johnny Johnson.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Vera Lynn, Anne Shelton, and Doris Day: The timeless storytelling and emotion in their voices remind me that songs have to resonate with listeners. I love the ease and warmth of Peggy Lee and Carly Simon, the soulful tones of Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan, and the masterclass Lea Salonga provides in delivering a musical number — all of whom inspire me to bring a genuine touch of magic and nostalgia to every song I perform.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have always had a love for the stage, performing in musical theatre, before making the decision to go professional in 2009. Since then, I've performed at many heritage events, 1940s weekends, and private celebrations. From weddings and restaurants to commemoration and remembrance events, as well as elegant dinner dances.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I enjoy performing at all sorts of events, though my passion is equally divided between creating the perfect musical atmosphere through background singing and putting on a dedicated show for an audience. I love to sing a mix of vintage classic songs to create an ambient, sophisticated, seamless musical backdrop that elevates weddings and corporate functions. At the same time, I absolutely love stepping into the spotlight for a full performance where I can connect directly with the audience, weaving personal anecdotes in between a beautifully varied set to create a truly memorable experience.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Ideally to arrive 2 - 1 hour before the performance to set up, depending on the type of venue and event. I normally perform 2 x 45 minutes, but happy to split this to suit the audience.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, happy to perform outdoors, provided that shelter is available to protect against both intense heat and wet weather, the performance area and cable routing are completely safe, and a reliable power supply is located close to the performance area.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I am happy to provide my repertoire list upon request, and clients are welcome to select their own set list or leave the music choices up to me. Additionally, I can learn up to two special request songs for the event.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients most commonly describe my performances as entertaining and engaging. They often comment on my lovely vocal tone, clear diction, and friendly, approachable nature on stage, noting my ability to seamlessly switch between music perfect for sitting back and listening to, and upbeat songs that get everyone up to dance.

What era of songs do you sing?

I can completely tailor my set to match your event's theme, whether you want a dedicated 1940s wartime and swing tribute or a mixed-vintage set of songs blending hits across multiple eras.

Do you arrive on your own?

At every job I am accompanied by my manager, driver, roadie, sound engineer, assistant and occasional DJ. Happily, all those roles are undertaken by just one person - Dave

Do you have Insurance?

Yes, a copy of the current certificate can be provided to your venue if required. Before setting up any equipment or props, we routinely carry out a health & safety assessment, with the aim of minimising any potential hazards.
All my electrical equipment is fully PATS tested. Again, a current certificate can be inspected.

How far do you travel?

From my home in Bury I can travel anywhere.
