About / Biography

Luminous Duo are a two-piece ensemble, featuring vocalist Nadine Assam and electric guitarist Lumai Francisco.

Performing in a range of languages, including Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic and English, they specialise in soul and latin covers of modern popular tunes, and classic 20th-century bossa-nova and jazz.

With previous happy clients including F1, Bloomberg, David Lloyds, Fortnum and Mason, Adobe, and many more, Luminous Duo have spent the last 8 years performing for corporate events, private parties, and weddings across the UK and internationally. They have performed in iconic venues including Tower Bridge, Tate Modern, Hampton Court Palace, The Ned, National Portrait Gallery and countless others.

Their unique sound stems from beautiful vocals, paired with looped jazz guitar, building layers to create a richness that can add a layer of elegance to an event, just as easily as it can start the party. Whatever your function requires, we can make it happen.

As well as specialising in bossa-nova, soul and jazz, the duo frequently perform up-beat funk/pop sets, and can expand their line-up with drums/percussion, keyboard, bass guitar, or trumpet/saxophone.

Luminous Duo always welcome song requests if your favourites aren't already on their repertoire list, and are able to provide all equipment necessary for their performance.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Performance area of at least 2.5 metres x 2 metres. If outside, please provide sufficient cover from rain/wind/sun.
Access to a 13 amp power socket close to the performance space.
2 car parking spaces (for gigs outside of central London).

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We provide all necessary audio equipment for our performances. If your event/venue has a PA system/sound team, we will be happy to work with them to ensure the best sound experience.
We do not currently supply lighting.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and where to park. We’d also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue and if our performance will be taking place outside.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we’re happy to play music from Spotify before and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music. If you would like a playlist after our performance, extra fees may be applicable to account for the extra time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

We had the honour of being flown out to Barcelona for a stunning wedding in 2026. We were asked to perform the welcome drinks, ceremony, drinks reception and first dance song, incorporating some of our favourites and many special requests for the couple. Despite having performed at Glastonbury Festival and many of London's amazing venues, there was something truly special about this Mataró wedding.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We've had the pleasure of studying incredible Brazilian artists, such as Antônio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto and Sérgio Mendes, as well as soul and Motown greats, including Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Amy Winehouse.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We met at university in London around a decade ago, and have been playing together ever since. Since then, our individual musical histories have combined into a unique, soulful, Latin-influenced sound.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

We have a great time performing anytime, anywhere! That being said, we particularly love a drinks reception. Whether it be at a wedding, where the couple have just said "I do" and can fully relax into the rest of the day, or at a corporate event, with the buzz of human connection and an excited energy running through the evening.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We usually arrive around 60 minutes prior to our performance. Given our simple duo setup, this allows plenty of time to get ready and perform a short sound check.
Our standard performance is 2x 45-minute sets with a short break between. We also frequently perform 3x 45-minute sets, or a single set, depending on the event. We are very flexible, so if you have something particular in mind, let us know and we can make it work!

Are you happy to perform outside?

We are happy to perform outside, given advance notice. We ask that our performance area is covered from sun/rain/wind, is flat and level, and has access to power close by.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We are happy to learn a few specific songs before the event. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Our previous reviews describe us and our performances as being:
"The perfect atmosphere for the event",
"Nailing the brief",
"Flexible",
"Having great chemistry".
