About / Biography

"The owners of the venue said it was the best band they'd had in the past 10 years. So good that we killed off the dance floor." – Michael, Wedding

Mainstage is a high-energy three-piece rock and dance-anthem band from Essex – drums, bass, and guitar with lead vocals – built for one thing: a packed dancefloor from the first song to the last. Think Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and Kings of Leon, mixed with drum-and-bass and dance reworks of The Prodigy, Pendulum, Calvin Harris and Chase & Status. It's the feeling of a festival main stage, brought to your wedding or party.

Who we are

We're Chris, Tom and Mason – three music teachers from Essex with years of gigging and live-sound experience between us. We've played everywhere from The Shard and Shepherd's Bush Empire to Cliffs Pavilion, Beautiful Days Festival and some of the region's best wedding venues, including Prested Hall, Gosfield Hall, Leez Priory, Houchins and Hengrave Hall.

Why couples book us

  • We sound much bigger than three people. We bring our own professional PA and lighting rig to every gig, so you get a full-band sound in a barn, marquee or function room.
  • We get everyone involved. Inflatable instruments, sing-alongs and the occasional guest on stage – from bridesmaids to a two-year-old nephew!
  • Your night, your songs. Pick from our repertoire, ask for a first dance or a special request, and give us a "do not play" list if you like.
  • Music all night. Playlist music through the breaks and after the band, or upgrade to our manned DJ service with requests on the night.
  • Easy to work with. We arrive early, set up quietly, and work around your day – even when the speeches run over.
  • Fully covered. Public liability insurance and PAT-tested equipment as standard.

What couples say

"Kept us and the crowd on the dancefloor the whole time… learned the song we requested and played a fantastic set!" – Steve P, Wedding

"We're die hard Glastonbury fans and these guys allowed us to achieve our own mini festival wedding experience." – Geoff H, Wedding

"Sore feet and lack of voices from all guests in the morning told the story of the night!" – Marc G, Wedding

A typical evening

We arrive about an hour before we play to set up and soundcheck. Then it's 2 x 45 minutes of live music, with playlist or DJ music in between and after – so there's never a quiet moment.

Perfect for

Weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, Christmas parties, New Year's Eve, pubs, bars and festivals across Essex, London, Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Kent and beyond.

Technical Info

3 x 3m floor space, access to at least 1 13amp power supply, small table if available, 3 parking spaces close to the load in area.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes we are completely self contained, We bring a professional PA system and Lighting system to every gig.

What information do you require about a venue?

Please let us know the venue address and the coordinator's contact details, which room we'll be playing in, the load-in point and parking, any stairs or lifts, where the power sockets are, whether there's a sound limiter or noise curfew, and the timings for the day (food, speeches, first dance, finish time). We're always happy to liaise with the venue directly.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes no problem. We're happy to use one of our pre made playlists or if you have a playlist you'd like played we can play that instead.

Do you offer a DJ service?

Yes. Our free playlist service covers the breaks and after the band, and you can send us your own playlist. Or upgrade to our manned DJ service for £149, which adds a DJ booth, extra lighting and requests on the night.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Hard to pick just one! Playing The Shard and Shepherd's Bush Empire were huge moments, but one of our favourite weddings was at Hengrave Hall – the crowd went wild, the inflatable instruments came out, and we even had the couple's 2-year-old nephew join us on stage. We've also had venue owners tell couples we were the best band they'd had in years, which means the world to us.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Foo Fighters for the energy and the songwriting, and The Prodigy and Pendulum for showing how heavy guitars and dance beats can live together – that mix is the heart of Mainstage.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We're all music teachers who've been gigging for years across Essex and London – weddings, festivals, theatres and function venues. Chris also has a background in sound engineering, which is why we run our own professional PA and lighting rig and take the sound at every gig seriously.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

Weddings! Nothing beats the moment the first dance ends and the whole room hits the dancefloor. We also love a party or festival crowd who sing every word back at us.

What makes Mainstage different from other function bands?

We're a rock and dance-anthem band rather than a standard function band. Expect Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys alongside The Prodigy and Pendulum, played with a full-band sound from just three musicians. Couples who love festivals tell us it feels like having their own main stage.

How do we secure our date?

A £100 deposit secures your date, and the balance is due 7 days before the event. Every booking comes with a full performance agreement, so everything is clear in writing.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We normally arrive 1 hour prior to performance time to set up. We usually perform 2 x 45 minutes of live music with 30min break in between where we can provide background music.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes – we're happy to play outdoors as long as there's a covered area (gazebo or marquee) to protect our equipment from rain, a flat, level surface and a power supply close to the performance area.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely. Choose your favourites from our repertoire, add a first dance or a few special requests with some notice, and give us a "do not play" list if you like – we'll shape the night around you and your guests.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

High-energy, professional and fun. Couples regularly tell us we kept them and their guests on the dancefloor all night, that we sounded amazing, and that we went the extra mile – learning requested songs, waiting patiently when the schedule overran, and finishing with an encore nobody forgot. More than one venue has told our couples we were the best band they've had there. We're rated 10/10 across all 7 reviews.

Can you learn our first dance song?

Yes! We regularly learn first dances and special requests for couples. Just let us know at least a few weeks before the big day, and we'll make it sound like the original or give it a Mainstage twist.

Can guests get involved?

Absolutely. We bring inflatable instruments, lead plenty of sing-alongs, and have welcomed guests of all ages on stage – from the bride and her friends to a very excited two-year-old!
