Matt started playing drums at 9 years old, having had an affinity for enjoying ITV Night Network concerts shown in the 1980s recorded by his parents, most notably Phil Collins. The novelty of the lead singer heading back to a second drum kit and playing a whole/part of a musical piece became something of an obsession to him and following using pots, pans and wooden spoons and the cleaner from the recorder he had been given for school lessons, his mum organised for lessons which carried on throughout school and beyond into adulthood.
Listening to his heroes and the acts they played with and learning how to read the music through the school orchestra, a local concert wind band whilst playing in bands with friends, Matt joined his first function band after passing his driving test and obtaining transport.
Since then, Matt has played in all manner of venues as a dep or member. Acts he has played with include Who's Got The Dog, Skasouls UK, Hope & Glory, Soundforce Big Band, The Dung Beatles, The Fabulators, The Snax, The Haystacks, The Loops, Buckley Collaboration and Glyn Devey and The Station.
He is currently a member of Skamungas, Jagged Little Alanis, Kerry Goodhind Band and a very proud association with The Steve Ling Duo/Band.
Matt can sing BVs, play to a click or loops and has a vast experience as a Master Of Ceremonies and mic technique after many years as a mobile DJ.
He plays Yamaha Drums and Sabien Cymbals, uses 5A sticks. Other optional facilities include using an electronic pad and a drum machine which can be programmed at your request. With his own transport and penchant for lime and soda as a gig tipple, he makes a great cup of tea and self deprecates.

In some instances it is necessary for me to mix my own monitoring and mic my drums using my own mixer, due to a great deal of sound engineers being unable to comprehend adjusting the use of electronics with acoustic drums . However you will only need to provide an XLR/Jack output and I will send my outputs back to the main desk.

Best gig I've ever done is with The Dung Beatles at The Cavern Club in Liverpool. What an experience and an opportunity too!
I have so many influences from across the whole spectrum of music. As far as being a drummer, Phil Collins is my absolute hero. He was able to play like his heroes when needed but in his own style and you just knew it was him when you heard him play without even knowing.
I've done hundreds and hundreds of live shows and sessions, jam nights, theatre shows and pub gigs.
I started before I was able to drive thanks to various friends parents driving me around. But the moment I passed my test on 1999, that was it. Boom. I was FREE!
Any. I just love playing drums.
As you need
Provides there's adequate cover in case of rain, of course!
I play whatever my client needs me to. Provided we converse before the gig so I know what I need to learn.
Brilliant. Vibrant, attentive, comedic and solid.
