About / Biography

Paul's Piano Skills:

Paul is a very unique and highly talented professional wedding and events pianist who can play just about anything you throw at him, in many different styles. His ability to turn an '80s rock anthem into a gentle ballad or a classic Elton song into a Latin American sound is really impressive. Not only this, Paul is a fabulous 'off the cuff' improviser of boogie, jazz, soul, ballad and classical styles, with endless possibilities. Having a great musical ear, Paul can soon work out most songs by listening to them, or by downloading the sheet music onto his iPad and playing them as requests during your event.

Can we pick our own wedding songs?

Paul has a vast selection of music that he can play during your event; however, if your preferred ceremony music isn't in his ever-expanding repertoire, Paul's very happy to learn this to perfection ready for your special day. Paul is very experienced at creating bespoke versions of songs and can easily adjust his playing to perfectly match the speed of your entrance. Unlike a pre-recorded track, Paul will always ensure your music fits effortlessly with aspects of your special day.

Paul has played piano at hundreds of venues throughout the North of England and Midlands, including prestigious venues such as Carlton Towers, Hazlewood Castle, and Stubton Hall and many more. He regularly plays at weddings, private parties and corporate events throughout Sheffield, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire - as well as venues further afield.

What If Our Venue Doesn't Have A Piano?

Paul brings along his own white baby grand digital piano. This adds the touch of elegance that your special event truly deserves. The piano is lightweight enough that it is able to be placed outside, as well as inside. The sound is truly remarkably close to a concert grand, which fills any space extremely well.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I require a minimum of 2x2 meters, however, 2x3 meters is ideal.

I will need suitable access to a wall plug socket inside the venue. I provide battery power when outdoors.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I provide my own sound system that I plug into the piano.

What information do you require about a venue?

I require a sufficient method of weather coverage in extreme hot conditions. (Gazebo, etc)

If the piano is required to be moved once set up, I will require a member of staff to help me safely do this.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No.

Are you insured?

Yes, I am fully insured with Lark Music. I am happy to provide further details if requested.

My venue has asked to needs to see your Electrical Safety Test details (P.A.T)

This is absolutely fine. I can provide this upon request. All of my electrical equipment is in perfect working order and fully up to date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I had the privilege of playing on the cruise ship 'Independence Of The Seas'.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Sir Elton John is by far my main influence as a pianist, however, my favourite pianist is the late Dr John.

I don't have one particular favourite song - there are many on my list,t including 'Piano Man - Billy Joel', 'Chicken Fried - Zac Brown Band', 'Tiko Tiko - Dr John' and 'Just The Way It Is - Bruce Hornsby and The Range'.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started gigging when I was 17, in a 70s/80s covers band on the UK club circuit after playing their 'temporary' pianist's piano. They hired me straight away!

I have played as a guest pianist and keyboard player for several tribute bands, soul and rock bands from the UK.

These days, I prefer to play solo piano gigs at weddings, corporate and private party events.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I adore playing piano for weddings. There are always lots of lovely, happy, smiling guests who say hi and are in a great positive spirit.

Can our guest make song requests during the day?

I am always happy to take suggestions and popular song requests during your special day. I am often asked to play songs that I am not familiar with. I have the unique skill of being able to play by ear, which means I can 'work out' most songs after a few listens.

Do you require refreshments during the day?

Although I never ask for refreshments, it is very much highly appreciated when provided.

How much notice do I need to give you for our chosen ceremony songs?

As I am always busy learning new songs for ceremonies, I would appreciate a month's notice. This way, I can plan ahead and make sure I spend time perfecting and creating the bespoke versions for your special day.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I would usually set up within 60 to 90 minutes. I always prefer to arrive at least two hours prior to the event taking place to ensure everything is in place and ready well in advance.

I offer a minimum of two 45 minute sets, then more sets are chosen during the booking procedure for any aspect of the day.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, I am more than happy to play outside - as long as it's a safe level surface with overhead coverage from hot direct sunlight or rain when required.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I am more than happy for my clients to choose songs from my ever-existing vast repertoire, however, most leave me to play what I know works for the given guests. If I am playing a ceremony for a couple, they get to choose up to 3 exclusive songs that I prepare for them a few weeks prior to their wedding.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

My clients often comment on how extremely versatile and lively my piano style is because I can switch between all types of music as well as play improvised versions in a variety of alternative genres. I can also play to any given moment and arrange the music to suit the exact moment in time completely seamlessly, making your special day even more unique.
