About / Biography

I trained in piano and violin at Oxford University, Goldsmiths, and with the National Youth Orchestra. I have been performing beautiful piano and violin music for over 25 years. I have performed in the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and played at the Dorchester and Landmark hotels for weddings in London and the world-famous Jazz Cafe. My repertoire includes classical, jazz, contemporary rock & pop. I can use my digital piano if your venue doesn’t have one. All equipment is PAT Tested. I can also play beautiful solo violin music, and I'd be delighted to play a mix of solo violin or piano at your event. I can also provide a guitarist to accompany me if you want a duo (have a listen to the recordings for an idea of the sound). You can also listen to my music by asking your digital device to "Play Roger Proctor".

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Parking space, 2 metre square space and a plug socket.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, a digital piano can be supplied if a piano is not available at the venue.

What information do you require about a venue?

Directions to the venue is important.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

I don't play music between acts since I am usually playing non-stop.

Do I need to get the piano tuned?

Please check with the venue that the piano is in tune. If not, I can organise tuning of the
instrument by a professional tuner (usually around £75).

How do we go about booking you to play?

If you would like to book me, I will require a non-refundable deposit of £45 (which includes a 14 day refundable cooling off period) with the total balance (less the deposit) payable within
6 weeks of the occasion

What insurance do you have?

As well as an enhanced DBS certificate, I hold full public liability insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

My most memorable gig was playing at the Jazz Cafe, Camden with Holton's Opulent Oog. The audience was electric and the vibe was amazing!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I particularly like the calm and contemplative music of Einaudi, alongside more up-tempo works by the likes of Elton John or Billy Joel. When I am playing jazz, my main inspiration is Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have been performing classical, contemporary and jazz music for 40 years. One of my most memorable experiences was playing Mahler's Second Symphony (violin) in the Proms.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I enjoy playing at weddings and accompanying drinks events to create that 'special' vibe.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I normally arrive an hour before the performance to set up. For each hour I play, I take a 5 minute break.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I am happy to play outside as long as there is cover from the rain and there is access to electrical power.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I can learn specific songs before the event.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous customers would describe my piano music as beautiful and emotionally charged.

Can I a request for a song/piece we’d particularly like you to play?

No problem, let me know well in advance (at least two months) of your special occasion and
I'll provide you a quote for performing the piece. I can also accompany other musicians, again
please provide the music within two months of the occasion so that I can provide you with a
quote

Can you play violin for the wedding ceremony and cocktail piano for our drinks reception?

Yes, absolutely! The solo violin is the perfect accompaniment for your walk down the aisle or the signing of the register. I play on a beautiful acoustic instrument that is more than 300 years old! And then, pop and jazz piano at your drinks reception will create a completely different feel.
