About / Biography

Sam is a versatile and experienced saxophonist and singer who has performed at weddings all over the UK, and has taken her jazz group to venues and festivals across the world, from Ronnie Scott's in London to Snug Harbor in New Orleans.

With her band, she performs a mixture of jazz and soulful pop in various styles throughout the decades (from traditional New Orleans and wartime standards, to Latin jazz, and upbeat jazz house) and also plays "Ibiza" style sax with DJ on the dance floor.

Whether she sings you down the aisle, plays in the background of your drinks reception, or hits the dancefloor alongside the DJ, she's the perfect live music for fun and stylish events.

Depending on your budget, she can come with more or fewer musicians. If your budget is higher, she can bring a full, swinging jazz quintet including trumpet, double bass and drums, or if the budget is lower, she come as a duo (with keyboard or guitar), or solo with backing tracks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Really difficult to answer! We’ve played on some huge stages including Green Man Festival and at the Royal Albert Hall, but I particularly love playing to an intimate crowd who are really listening in a tiny jazz club. It’s always a real honour to sing someone down the aisle or provide music in the background of a wedding or funeral, because you’re having a memorable impact on a really special day.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Another impossible question.
As a saxophonist, I love Stan Getz’s tone and also his period playing Brazilian music. I play lots of different genres so he inspires me a lot.
I also love Paul Desmond’s tone.

As a singer, I love Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones and Melody Gardot.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started busking at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival when I was 18 and so outdoor music, roaming bands, and street performance are very close to my heart. Since then, I’ve played at dozens of weddings and at festivals and venues across the UK, as well as internationally. I also record sax for different artists.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I love playing anywhere that people are listening and enjoying the music, whether it’s on the streets of New Orleans, on a big festive stage, or at someone’s wedding.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We need half an hour to an hour to set up, depending on the size of the band.

We usually play two, three or four 45-minute or 60-minute sets.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Of course! When we’re being hired, we’ll play what the client wants. Let us know your favourite songs and we’ll make sure to include them.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

A friendly bunch of musicians who create the perfect atmosphere.
