About / Biography

If you are looking for a live acoustic folk band with character and a genuinely unique repertoire, we’d love to hear from you! We are an unique acoustic duo based in London playing mostly traditional tunes and songs from Ireland and the British Isles with a bit of Gypsy Swing, Balkan, and Calypso in the mix.

A bit about us:

Violinist and singer Alice is a regular on the London folk scene running an Irish music session and a ceilidh band. Guitarist Waz brings driving rhythms and jazz chord voicings to traditional tunes. Together, we've played everywhere from intimate restaurant settings to some really racuous St Patricks Day gigs!

Our repetoire makes us well-suited to events where you want something more distinctive than a standard covers band! As well as the folk and jazz classics, we are happy take song/tune requests prior to the event with good notice.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We bring all our own equipment in the form of a small amp, and mics. For high capacity venues (150+), our quote does not include a PA or lighting set up and the venue itself will need to provide this. For venues outside of London, a parking space is always appreciated but not a requirement.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we use a small amp for our gigs. For higher capacity venues we cannot provide our own PA.

What information do you require about a venue?

To ensure swift set up, the venue address and information about timings (when we can set up) is always appreciated. Flexibility around timings is possible provided we are given notice.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we are happy to play recorded music before, after, and between our sets if this is something you would be interested in. We have our own playlist that matches the music we play but we are happy to let the client use their own playlist too.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Its hard to choose a favourite gig as there have been so many great ones! A favourite for us was playing for a drawing group whilst they were creating art. It was so nice to facilitate other people's creativity. Playing on a stationary barge was a memorable venue too!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We take inspiration from folk revival groups such as Pentangle, the Albion Band, and Fairport Convention. However, we also love Django Reinhart and Duke Ellington!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Sharing a love of Irish traditional music we had our first gig on St Patricks day. We really enjoy playing musci together and since then we've played for a number of years in venues all over the country and oversees.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

There's nothing better than playing at a wedding or birthday party. Its such a good feeling to contribute to somebodies special day! Everybody is always in high spirits and its always a privilege.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We typically arrive 45-30 minutes before the performance to set up. Our normal set times are 2x 30 or 2x45 minute sets. We have played sets up to an hour long before for function events! Get in touch and we can discuss what works for your event.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Certainly! Weather permitting. However, we do require proximity to a power supply if the gig is amplified and our instruments don't love being rained on.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We can learn specific songs or tunes before an event but we normally limit it to around 4-6 songs with two weeks notice to factor in additional rehearsal times.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients have loved the upbeat and lively energy of the tunes we play! We also play in a lot of bars and restaurants and are skilled at creating the right atmosphere for a dining/drinks event.
