About / Biography

Classically trained, Sarah Louise Briggs has worked with numerous musicians including the Manchester Camerata Orchestra, Bolton Choral Union and the Bolton Symphony Orchestra to name but a few. She has been principle singer in many works such as, the famous Handel’s 'Messiah', Haydn’s 'Nelson Mass', Elgar’s 'Coronation Ode' and Charpentier’s 'Messe de Minuit pour Noel'. Sarah has performed at various theatres and venues across the north, including Liverpool Cathedral, King George’s Hall and Victoria Halls in concerts, recitals and Mayor’s Command performances. She was also the soloist to launch the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Award. As well as classical, she performs favourites from the shows, easy listening and Jazz effortlessly with her smooth silky tones. Sarah is always in demand to sing at weddings, funerals, concerts and other private functions throughout the year.

I also work as part of a piano/keyboard/vocal duo for parties, restaurants, wedding receptions, corporate events...covering jazz, swing, ballads, modern and upbeat floor fillers.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I work with orchestras, organists and pianist. I can provide my own musical pa etc. Whether it is for classical music or a more relaxed setting with jazz/swing, ballads etc...

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, I am self contained. If it's a wedding or a funeral, I'm accompanied by their resident pianist/organist. I can provide music myself if none are available.
Obviously if I'm performing with my duo, we have all our keyboards, pa etc..

What information do you require about a venue?

Any directions that may help to find the venue and the area to enter or load (depending on type of booking).

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, if that is a requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I loved singing at the famous Liverpool Cathedral where the acoustics were just amazing.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

It is hard to chose a davourite artist as I love most genre, but, Ella Fitzgerald is definitely up there along with soprano Jesse Norman. As a child, my parents used to play 60s music - I don't think there's a 60s song I can't sing along to!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

There have been many highlights since I started public performance at 14 - from straight theatre, classical concerts and many many weddings. There is a deep emotional connection whenever I sing at funerals and it's paramount to get it right for the families.
Since I started, I've performed at hundreds of events up and down the UK!

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I love singing at all sorts of events from serious high-brow classical to foot-tapping and uplifting gigs with my jazz/swing duo.

Do you have your own accompaniment?

Yes, if their is no resident pianist/organist I can book one or provide PA with backing.

How far do you travel?

I cover the UK.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I always like to arrive an hour before if it's a wedding or a funeral so that myself and the pianist/organist can have another run through. If there is no live accompaniment and I am using tracks, I still arrive an hour earlier to set up and do a sound check.

With regards to performance times, that depends on what the occasion is. I may be booked to sing the bride in, sing whilst the register is being signed and maybe as the couple leave (whatever they decide they want for their special day). If it's a funeral people again may want one, two or three songs but whatever it is I of course stay for the whole ceremony.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I'm happy to play outside. A decent ground or surface and
a shade or shelter would be required with power supply if it's for my jazzy set.
* I also sing graveside for funerals if required.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I have a sample repertoire to chose from but if I have enough booking notice, I'm happy to learn specific songs for the client.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients gave described my performances as 'moving', 'powerful mezzo',' voice of an angel', 'highly recommended '.

Are you a trained singer?

Yes. I am a trained classical singer (mezzo-soprano )

Do you sing anything else?

Yes, I sing cross-over, musical theatre, jazz, ballads, swing. It all depends on the type of booking.
