Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We need a performance space of roughly 3m by 3m. We can bring a keyboard, however if there is a piano at the venue which is cared for and in tune, we would love to use it as having an acoustic piano always makes the event extra special.
We will require a nearby 13 amp plug socket that we can plug an extension into. (unless the space and the provision of a piano allows us to play acoustically!)
Up to 3 car parking spaces would be useful although we will try to come in as few vehicles as possible.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We are completely self contained. We will provide our own sound equipment. If the event is more of a performance than background music then we can provide basic lighting as well.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. We’d also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide a DJ service between sets if required although please note we will be using our sound equipment for this. Any speeches etc will need to be amplified through a different system.

We can provide a PA for an extra fee - please contact us about this specifically.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

One of the best gigs I've ever done was supporting Neil Young and Bob Dylan at Hyde Park which was an absolute honour. I have also played the Pyramid Stage and the Park Stage at Glastonbury Festival on the same day which required quite a high speed land rover ride around the back of the site to make it in time - there's no business like show business!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

It is quite hard as a jazz musician to answer this question as I have spent most of my careering listening and learning from 100's of different artists. I love everything from Dr John and Louis Armstrong from New Orleans to Dr Dre and Snoop, with everyone from Branford Marsalis, Duke Ellington and Arethan Franklin in between. More importantly, what's your favourite music and what can we play for you?

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

My first gig on double bass was live on the radio and I had only been playing it for a week! I was dropped straight into the deep end!

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

My personal favourite event is a quiet intimate concert to a small but packed jazz club. Magic happens in those spaces. But we adapt to every space we're in and every event can be magic.

What music do you play?

We are a jazz piano trio. We specialise in what are known as Jazz Standards - tunes either composed by jazz musicians which have become popular and widely known or popular songs played regularly by jazz musicians as a sort of base material. Some Day My Prince Will Come is a good example, as it was a from a 1937 Walt Disney animation but was popularised amongst the jazz community by Miles Davis.
However we are very versatile and can adapt our set list to your needs - if you wanted 2 straight hours of waltz's, I'm sure this is something we could accommodate. (Although in this really rather extreme case, we may advise against it!)

Can you work as a duo or as a quartet

We are happy to perform as a duo - just double bass and piano or we can add either a horn player (such as saxophone or trumpet) or a singer to enhance the ensemble, as you require.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We would typically arrive 2hrs before a performance to set up. A normal performance is 2x45m sets. We are happy to play for a bit more or or a bit less time, as suits your event however we've found those to be the most suitable length for everyone.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We can perform outside as long as we have sufficient shade or shelter, a flat surface to play on and a safe power supply close by.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We are happy to take requests either before or on the day however we usually limit the number or songs which can be requested. We are very experienced at choosing appropriate repertoire for how it feels on the day itself.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

We have been described as bringing very high quality music and creating a perfect atmosphere for audiences.
