About / Biography

Surrey Strings is a female string ensemble that creates exclusive music for weddings, corporate entertainment, promotional events and other special occasions. Established in 2008 the musicians that form Surrey Strings are prize winning graduates from prestigious London conservatoires including the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They perform with renowned orchestras and ensembles including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra and have also appeared on national television. We have performed at exclusive venues including Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, the National Portrait Gallery, the Oriental Mandarin, the Savoy Hotel and Claridges.

Surrey Strings typically performs as a string trio (violin, viola and cello) however we are also able to provide a string quartet (two violins, viola and cello) or string duet (violin and cello).

Weddings

String music forms the perfect setting for your wedding ceremony, drinks reception or wedding breakfast. Surrey Strings may be engaged for part or all of your wedding celebrations. Our most frequent requests are for the wedding ceremony and drinks reception.

Wedding ceremony

Surrey Strings creates the perfect ambience for a church wedding or civil ceremony. Our wedding ceremony performance includes music before the ceremony while guests arrive, for the entrance of the bride, the signing of the register and for the exit of the bridal party. We are also able to play hymns for church weddings. Our repertoire includes all the famous bridal marches and traditional wedding music. Our complete repertoire may be downloaded. We are also happy to perform special requests which may have a particular significance for the couple. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Drinks reception

We understand that flexibility is important for any wedding celebration! Surrey Strings is able to perform in a variety of settings and locations and is happy to play outside between May and September wherever possible. Our lighter selection of music is ideal for drinks receptions while guests mingle and relax and photographs are taken.

Entertainment

Surrey Strings’s unique combination of quality and style will enhance any celebration. Events we have provided music for range from Christmas parties, to book launches and race days to corporate training videos. Whatever the occasion, Surrey Strings offers a versatile approach to your music requirements.

What are your basic technical requirements?

One armless chair per player, sufficient light to read music


Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Instruments and music and music stands.


What information do you require about a venue?

Is there a shaded area to play outside.


Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Set up: 30 minutes

For a two hour period we would play for one hour, take a 10 minute break and play for the next 50 minutes.

For three hours - play for an hour, take a break of around 15 minutes, play for another 45 minutes and take a shorter break of say 10 minutes and then play for the remainder.

Four hours - play for an hour, take a break, play for 50/45 minutes, take a break and so on.


Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes we often play outside but need shading from sunlight and the weather needs to be not too windy or cold.


Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

You may select any pieces from our repertoire. We may also play a request piece of your choice but we do charge the cost of purchasing the music, normally around £10.


How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Beautiful and elegant. Often guests compliment us on the quality of our playing and are surprised by the range of our repertoire.


What is the difference between a string quartet and trio

A string quartet has two violins a viola and a cello. A string trio has one of each.
