I play regularly as a solo performer in the Antwerp region of Belgium each year. I have also played at the 'Jazz in the Park' festival in Cluj Napoca (Romania), at the annual August Fiesta in Montanchez, Spain.
There is no single artist that I think has strongly influenced my songwriting style but I am a big fan of Neil Young, Tom Petty, Ry Cooder, Bob Dylan and classic blues and rock artists such as Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley and Nina Simone.
I have been playing guitar since I was 13 and almost entirely self taught picking up styles and techniques over the years listing to records, going to gigs etc. I started playing solo in 2012 and have been playing regularly as a solo artist and as a member of various bands in and around Manchester. I also play as a session musician (Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, lap steel and Weissenborn guitar) on album recording sessions for other manchester based artists.
I love to play at all sorts of events and in the last year I have played a intimate family events (5 people) as well as at outdoor festival events (Belgium) for audience of more than 1000 people. I like to play a variety of instruments in my shows and cover a range of musical styles from 1930's blues and folk to American, Folk and Country rock classics from the 1960's 70's and 80's.
Most performances are based on 2x 45 minutes sets bu for some venues and events I have played 3x 45 minute sets (and more if required!).
With good access to the performance space, and where I provide the PA I normally expect to set up set up in 30-45 minutes. Take down times are around 30 minutes depending on access.
I'm happy to play outside as long as there is shelter from wind and rain or direct sunshine on hot days. Power points must also be close to the performance area. Outside performances spaces must be secure to prevent possible loss or damage to equipment before during and after the performances.
I can send a sample set list and clients may request specific songs from that list. I can add up to 4 additional songs by negotiation, with at least 4 weeks notice.
Previous customers have described my shows events that "draw on emotional and lyrical intensity of Americana, Blues and Folk roots". Combining varied set lists that include original songs and classic covers in unique performances that "always make for a great live experience, whether you are seeing him for the first time or the tenth.” At smaller venues my shows are described as intimate performances by “the sort of artist who quietens a room merely by beginning his performance.”
Here's a sample of cover songs from my set lists.
