Yasmin Richards is an award-winning Welsh harpist from the Rhondda Valleys. She is a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where she studied under the tutelage of Kathryn Rees and in her final year, Catrin Finch. Additionally, during her studies she had the opportunity to study abroad in Toronto with world renowned harpist, Judy Loman.
An advocate for new works, Yasmin has worked closely with composers to expand the harp repertoire throughout her degree, most recently premiering 3 new works commissioned as part of the Telyn Gymreig Newydd concert funded by Ty Cerdd in 2026. Her enthusiasm for contemporary works led her to compete in the Senior Category of the United Kingdom Harp Competition with a programme highlighting new works; she was awarded the Sioned Williams Prize in 2025. Most recently, she won the Nansi Richards Scholarship at the Wales Harp Festival 2026. She will be performing on the Llwyfan Encore at the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol in August as part of the prize.
As well as her solo work, Yasmin is also an avid Chamber and Orchestral player, most notably playing with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales in 2023 and 2024 as Principal Harp, as well as the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra for numerous concerts and their production of Nino Rita's opera 'Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze'. During her time at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, she played in multiple Symphony Orchestra concerts and in her final year, was the harpist in their production of 'Sweeney Todd' at the Sherman Theatre. Last autumn she formed 'Trio Ennyn' with former NYOW principals of the flute and viola sections.
Yasmin’s repertoire ranges from classical and Welsh traditional to pop and musical theatre. Each event is unique, and she can arrange any piece not already in her repertoire in order to provide a truly unforgettable experience.
Based in Cardiff City, Cardiff
= areas covered (up to 155 miles)
= free travel (up to 20 miles)
I would need enough space for my harp, stool and stand (approx. 2m x 2m).
If the event requires amplification I would need to have access to a power supply.
If possible a parking space and/or nearby loading bay.
It would be useful to know whether there is step free access and if not, whether someone would be available to assist with stairs if needed.
I usually arrive up to an hour before the event in order to have time to set up.
For bookings 2 hours or longer I would play 45/50min sets with short breaks in between. For a booking of 1 hour, I would play for the full duration.
I always encourage requests as I’m happy to arrange specific pieces for events. You’re also welcome to choose a set list from my own repertoire or leave it to me to curate a set list based on your event.
