"My partner and I were married in September of this year and Peter performed for us during our evening reception. Peter played a wonderful set using traditional historic instruments which created a fantastic atmosphere for our guests. All of our guest complimented us on his performance and stated that it made the evening very memorable. Peter was very professional and I found communicating with him prior to the event very easy. Peter took on board our requests and I found the whole process very easy to organise. Thanks again Peter for making our day that extra bit special."
James and Cheryl's review of Peter - Historical / Medieval Musician
Ideal for:
Specialist musicians are going to be perfect for any event with a really strong theme. For example, public events at particularly historic country residences and or hotels may benefit from a medieval musician! Romantic and intimate weddings will benefit from modern string groups or harpists. No matter how unique your theme, you are sure to benefit from the addition of a specialist musician. Don't forget, you can always get advice from any prospective act.
When booking Specialist Musicians:
Remember, when booking your specialist musician you need to make sure you research their repertoire and listen to live recordings. That way you know they will be in keeping with your theme! When contacting the musician, you will need to make them aware of the style and theme of the event so they can produce a set list of songs that are suitable. Many specialist musicians only have a set list of around two hours of material, so if you're expecting them to play for four hours, you will need to negotiate this with them before the big day.
In comparison to party bands, there are not as many specialist musicians in the UK to choose from, so it's crucial that you book them quickly to avoid disappointment. Before the day of the event, converse with your chosen musician as to their requirements - you will most likely find out that they will need somewhere to change, a chair, power socket, parking space, refreshments and a meal. Requirements vary from musician to musician so never assume that they all require the same things.
Prices for Specialist Musicians:
Most specialist musicians perform solo, and so will charge a minimum of £150. The more unique their instrument, the more they are likely to charge. If you are looking to cut down on travel costs, then use the "advanced search" feature to find specialist musicians near you.
About Specialist Musicians:
Medieval musicians play classic medieval instruments such as the lute, harp and pipes. They are often booked for banquet style dinners, outdoor events or even themed weddings! They perform a repertoire that consists of old English traditional folk songs such as 'Elizabethan Gems', 'The Pied Piper' and 'The English Balladeer'. Professional Medieval musicians also dress up to look the part and fit your theme, meaning your event is as authentic as possible. And lets face it... who doesn't want a guy with a lute sporting 8th century style leggings at their party?!
Loop artists use new technology to layer up different parts of the music, often recording multiple rhythms, bass lines, chords, melody and harmony. Sometimes they will use an instrument, like guitars or synthesizers and sometimes they will use nothing more than their voice!
Modern string sections and performers shun the traditional way of interpreting classical material, incorporating elements of Dance and World music, often utilizing synths and drum machines to give popular or classical material a new modern twist!
The rest of the musicians in the specialist category cover everything from Afro- Cuban style guitarists to Opera singers! The best thing to do is simply browse through the acts and let your creativity do the rest!
