About / Biography

Motown/Soul/Disco/Pop/Rock/Jazz and Swing it can all be covered

(he can also dedicate part of the set to pay tribute to Elvis, Tom Jones, The Beatles or The Stones, 60’s 70’s etc.).

So you’ve got the job of organising the music for a celebration? Congratulations! You can now relax - your work is done!
Gordon will provide exactly what you need with no fuss or problems. If you have been looking for a singer or a band you will know that there are an awful lot to choose from.

Why is Gordon the right choice? London-based Gordon brings you hits from the Kinks to Olly Murs with lots in between. He has performed the most prestigious venues both within the UK, Internationally and on Cruise Ships. with many years experience and he will be happy to put together a bespoke package just for you.

Gordon is a vocalist who started gigging at 14 working the London East End pub circuit. He is now an exceptionally versatile performer/songwriter and works with internationally renowned musicians in major venues throughout the USA Europe and Africa.

What makes Gordon so different is not just his vocal expertise and delivery but the extensive range of styles that he covers. Dependent only upon the occasion, he performs anything from original material to jazz, blues and soul covers.

From gentle ballads to powerful blues, he is definitely not just another “Jazz Singer”. There is no play list that is cast in stone. He performs for the occasion, with most tastes and ages catered for, providing any combination or number of musicians from performing solo up to performing with the full 9 piece band.

Gordon has performed for The Royal Family, numerous MPs and a bling of “A list” celebrities at private functions with some of the finest jazz session musicians in the UK.

As a solo artist Gordon sings, plays guitar and/or uses backing tracks. You may require some background jazzy sounds while your guests dine followed by some post-dinner dancing and a disco. Gordon can also provide recorded music during his breaks/before after the live event.

For those intimate occasions, Gordon can perform acoustically (no need for electricity) or for those large corporate events Gordon can reproduce his big band sound performing with backing tracks, an appropriately sized PA and lights.
Dynamic, powerful and soulful, his voice resonates with a raw energy and has been described as ‘a sublime mixture of gravel and honey’.
Combined with his vocal dexterity is his electric personality. Gordon has the ability to light up the stage and engage with his audience in a way that makes you think he is singing just for you.

There is an extensive playlist displayed however, new songs are added to the set every month, and if you have any particular favorites that are not on the list, a couple of them can be performed on your evening at no extra cost.

For those who are thinking of scaling the size of the band up, Gordon can provide you with a duo, trio, small band or his full 8 piece function band (see the Meantime band profile on this site).

Let Gordon know your requirements and he will meet them.

As well as being a professional entertainer, Gordon is a trained vocal coach and can coach you to sing your first song at your wedding!

All in all he promises a night to remember!

Reviews:

I’ve always loved hearing Gordon‘s strong, rich voice storm a London club gig. Half David Clayton-Thomas, half Lou Rawls, his voice is unique but the project reminded me of Boz Scaggs’s recent standards sessions – great songs recorded by a soul singer who has ripened into maturity.

This fit, stylish fifty-something guy has been gigging since he was 14, travelling widely and entertaining the Royal Family and many A List celebs along the way. Expecting some serious raunch, I was surprised to hear a different side of him on a sophisticated set which includes contemporary ballads like Sting’s Fragile, (containing a soulful violin solo from Chinara Sharshenova, good throughout), a faster Sultans of Swing, a slower Rikki Don’t Lose that Number, Taste of Honey given an All Blues revamp and many other fresh ideas which trigger a smile.

Gordon’s CD arrived a few days after I’d spent an afternoon obsessively trying out every version of Simon Smith and his Amazing Dancing Bear on Spotify, which Sting may think was synchronicity whereas I’m going for telepathy. Gordon’s a down to earth geezer so I’d better quickly say that this fresh swing version easily ranks alongside Randy Newman’s original and Alan Price’s hit, especially when Dominic Ashworth cuts loose with a gorgeous guitar solo, one of several he contributes.

The musicians are of the highest calibre, particularly the arrangers Geoff Gascoyne who has worked miracles for Jamie Cullum, Dominic Ashworth and Derek Nash. Anything recorded by Derek will sound clear and vibrant, the beautiful percussion sound in particular, although Nic France might justifiably get the hump if I don’t mention that he drums sensitively throughout.

The one original is a wistful, romantic bossa which sounds like it deals with a serious relationship for its writer. In this noisy, often tasteless world of ours, it takes courage to wear your heart on your sleeve and to provide an audience with warm mellow delight.

Stand out track for me is Sting’s haunting Fragile, but they will all repay repeated listenings.
