Island Sounds are a performance music duo, who are passionate about spreading joy through the evocative sound of steel pans and bring fun and friendship to every performance. We have a wide and ever-expanding repertoire, providing beautiful, contemporary background music for weddings, parties, corporate events and many other occasions. We perform acoustically, without a PA, which means we can perform in outdoor or off-grid locations. It also means we do not provide recorded music in between sets. A typical performance is 1 hour, with a maximum peformance time of 2 x 45 minute sets, however we are flexible with timings, as we realise that event schedules can often be unpredictable. We are happy to travel to gigs across Southern England.

We are part of a larger steel band and love it so much we decided to start our own duo. We have been performing together for almost 9 years.
We love playing at all sorts of events but particularly enjoy community fetes and private parties where we have the opportunity to interact with our audience and teach them something about steel pan.
A typical performance consists of 2 x 45 minute sets. We require about 15 minutes to set up and aim to arrive 30 - 45 minutes before the start.
We perform acoustically, without sound equipment. We generally find this ideal for events of up to around 100 people. As we don’t need an electricity supply it means we are able to perform in “off grid” locations, so receptions held in a field, garden, barn or beach are no problem. As we do not use sound equipment we are unable to provide recorded music between sets.
Outdoor performances are weather dependent and we reserve the right to decline to perform if we consider excessive wind, rain or sun would cause damage to our instruments. We advise having a back up plan for any event to mitigate possible bad weather.
Yes, as long as the ground is fairly flat and level.
Unfortunately we are unable to play any songs not listed in our repertoire on the day. However, with advanced notice, we are happy to learn a specific song at customers' request.
As a duo our clients are generally private individuals where we perform at parties and wedding receptions. We are happy to perform at corporate events, but the nature of our duo is ideally suited to private and community type events.
As part of Sussex Steel we have performed for Virgin Holidays, Brighton Fringe event, at Rotterdam Carnival and Swanage Carnival.
