About / Biography

Hi, I’m Jessica Hallam, a professional solo vocalist and the face behind Mummy That Sings.
I provide live music for weddings, parties, pubs, private events, corporate events and celebrations across Sussex and beyond, performing a huge range of music from classic favourites through to current pop.
My sets are tailored to suit each individual event, whether you’re looking for relaxed live music for a wedding ceremony or drinks reception, feel good background music, or an upbeat party set packed with songs people know and love.

For weddings, I can provide live music for ceremonies, drinks receptions and evening celebrations, including a live first dance or special song requests where possible. I love working with couples to create a setlist that feels personal to them rather than simply performing the same set at every wedding.

I perform using professional backing tracks and high-quality PA equipment, including my Bose L1 Pro16 system, and can provide background music between live sets where required.

My repertoire covers pop, soul, Motown, disco, musical theatre and crowd-pleasing classics from across the decades, and I’m equally comfortable creating a relaxed atmosphere or getting a room singing and dancing.

Alongside performing professionally, I have built an online audience of over 180,000 followers across TikTok, Instagram and Facebook as Mummy That Sings.
I’m friendly, reliable and passionate about making every booking feel special. If you have a particular song, theme or style in mind, please get in touch and I’m always happy to discuss creating something bespoke for your event.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

A suitable performance space with access to a standard 13 amp power socket nearby. I also require reasonable access for loading/unloading my equipment and ideally parking at or close to the venue.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes. I am fully self-contained and provide my own professional Bose L1 Pro16 PA system, microphone and all equipment required for my performance. Lighting is not normally included but I’m happy to work with any lighting provided by the venue.

What information do you require about a venue?

I require the venue address, performance and setup times, details of the performance area, access/loading information and parking arrangements. Please also let me know where power is available and whether the venue has a sound limiter or any specific noise restrictions.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes. I can provide background music before, after and between my live sets through my PA system. I’m happy to choose suitable music for the event or work with a playlist supplied by the client. Please note this is background music rather than a full DJ service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Some of my favourite gigs have been the ones where the whole room really gets involved singing along, dancing and creating that brilliant atmosphere where you can feel everyone enjoying themselves. I’ve performed at a wide range of venues across Sussex, from weddings and private events to busy pubs and live music venues, and I particularly love performing somewhere with a great crowd and a real live-music atmosphere.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I’ve always been influenced by strong female vocalists across pop, soul and musical theatre, particularly artists who can combine powerful vocals with real emotion and personality. My musical taste is incredibly varied, which is reflected in my live sets, everything from soul and Motown through to pop, disco and musical theatre. Picking one greatest song of all time is almost impossible, but I’ll always have a soft spot for a huge vocal and a song everyone instantly recognises.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I have a BA in Music with Instrumental and Vocal Teaching, a BIMM Diploma in Vocals and additional performance and composition qualifications. I’ve performed for many years alongside working as a primary school teacher and music specialist, before developing my professional solo singing career further.

I now perform regularly at weddings, private parties, pubs, venues, care homes and events across Sussex and beyond. I also perform as Mummy That Sings, combining my professional singing career with an online audience of over 180,000 followers across TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I genuinely enjoy lots of different events, but weddings and celebrations are probably my favourite. I love being part of such an important day and being able to tailor the music around the couple or client. I also love upbeat evening events where everyone is singing and dancing, there’s nothing better than a room full of people joining in with songs they love.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I usually allow around 45–60 minutes before the performance for arrival, setup and soundcheck, depending on access at the venue. My standard booking is usually 2 x 45-minute live sets, although I can also offer 1 x 60 minutes, 2 x 60 minutes or bespoke performance lengths depending on the event.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, absolutely. I’m happy to perform outdoors provided there is suitable cover in case of poor weather and a safe, level performance area. I can use my full Bose L1 Pro16 PA where mains power is available, and I also have a portable Roland CUBE Street speaker for smaller performances or locations where access to power is limited.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely. I have a large and varied repertoire and I’m very happy for clients to choose favourite songs and give me an idea of the style or atmosphere they would like. For weddings and special events I can also learn specific song requests where possible, including ceremony songs, first dances and other meaningful choices. I’ll then build the rest of the set around the client and the type of event.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients often describe my performances as engaging, professional, energetic and personal. I love interacting with the audience and creating a relaxed, fun atmosphere, whether that means providing beautiful background music or getting everyone singing and dancing. I’m also often complimented on the variety of my repertoire and my ability to tailor the performance to the crowd.
