About / Biography

MOTA are a 4-piece covers band playing high-energy rock/pop floorfillers to get audiences dancing all night. From the Kinks to The Killers! MOTA formed in 2023 from members from two other bands who wanted to play together. Vocals, Guitar, Bass and Drums. We are all highly experienced musicians who have played rock and pop music on the circuit for many years. We play most weekends in pubs and clubs from York to Blyth.

We love performing live and especially making sure people have enormous fun dancing to their favourite well-known numbers. Our main motivation is to see our audiences having the time of their lives. Our setlists are created only from well-known and well-loved songs across the decades.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We require a performance space of at least 4m by 5m. We require minimum 2 x 13amp power sockets and 4 parking spaces.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we’re completely self contained. We bring our own PA system to all of our gigs as well as a simple lighting rig.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know a postcode to help us find the venue and availability of parking near the load-in point. We’d also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we’re happy to play music from our own laptop before, after and between our sets. We can offer an 80's set or a 2000's set. Our DJ sets are up to 1.5 hours duration. We do not require an internet connection.

How large a venue can you perform in?

We have a powerful PA system and professional sound enhancement systems that allow us to play all but the largest indoor venues.

How small a venue can you perform in?

We can fit into quite a small space. If it will take a regular size drum kit then we can probably get in.

Can you cope with noise limiters?

We will not play venues that have the type of noise limiter which cuts out electrical supply above a fixed decibel reading. This risks damage to our equipment. If a sound measuring device is present we will strive to remain within it's limit - bearing in mind that acoustic drum kits do not possess a volume control!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

We have played numerous fantastic venues in large social clubs and hotels for parties and weddings, Some of our favourite gigs have been smaller events in intimate venues though.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We generally enjoy rock music, but the most important thing is to provide entertainment for our audiences. The songs that get audiences excited and up dancing and singing are our favourites to play. There's no such thing as a greatest song of all time - all music is great!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We have all been gigging for many, many years and have played thousands of gigs in that time. We got together to form MOTA in 2023 because we were in different bands at that time and had a shared vision of how a professional rock and pop party band should be.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

Any event where people are up for a good time and appreciate well-played popular music. We've enjoyed gigs in small pubs with 10 customers present as much as gigs in large auditoriums and civic halls with more than 250 people celebrating important events.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We require a minimum of 90 minutes to load in, set up and soundcheck. We prefer to have 2 hours though, for a smooth preparation. We normally perform 2 x 45 minutes. We’re happy to play a bit longer or shorter but we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area. For inclement weather we must perform under a watertight roof.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We can learn specific songs before the event but we usually limit this to 3 songs, which must be relevant to our setup. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous customers would describe us as a high energy group that loves to get the audience on their feet dancing.

Which instruments are used in your sets?

We have a male vocalist, electric guitarist (with backing vocals), bass guitarist and a drummer (with backing vocals). Some tracks also feature a music synthesiser. We do not use backing tracks.
