About / Biography

Classically trained at the RCM in London, David now works as a freelance musician specialising in PIANO (accompaniment, hotel gigs, Wedding services), KEYBOARDS (various set ups available, extensive experience in cover bands and playing in shows), HORN (orchestral and solo), TRUMPET (orchestral or big/soul bands) or MD/Conducting work (much in demand as a Musical Director for shows, but also conducts various choirs and groups).

David can accompany your exams, choirs or soloists- but is more frequently booked for gigs or hotels/bars that need a background pianist and can adapt to any styles required. David also has many years experience of playing and arranging music for Wedding (or Funeral) services. Available for solo bookings or residencies, these can be made bespoke and styles (from classical to modern pop hits) can be discussed and agreed.

In addition to keyboard work, David is available for anyone looking for a horn player for an event, or for a trumpeter (ideally orchestras or show bands, soul bands, etc).

David also runs various community choirs, so if you need singers or other ensembles, please get in touch.

David is highly adaptable and has a wealth of experience and resources, so please get in touch to discuss your requirements. Recordings can be made available upon request.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

If your venue doesn't have a piano I will need to negotiate room requirements. I have various stage electronic piano's that I would bring with me. Horn and trumpet bookings just require space to stand.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, completely self contained. I have various digital pianos and would discuss the requirements with you and the most suitable for the event.

What information do you require about a venue?

Parking facilities, plug access and space available.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, this can be arranged- but also would be happy for the client to choose music themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I have performed in various arenas around the UK and world- but nothing beats playing at a personal occasion such as a Wedding, where the music is relevant to the people involved. I have also been lucky to be booked by many hotels to play as a cocktail/background pianist and this has taken me into all sorts of venues. As a brass player, nothing beats playing at the Royal Albert Hall (particularly when it is full up) and I have been privileged to do this on various occasions.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Modern day times it would have to be the musical influence of groups such as Queen, Coldplay, Muse, and obviously The Beatles. In terms of Classical, to me it all points at Mozart and his rebellious approach to music!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have been playing the piano since the age of 4, initially learning by ear before going on to study at the Royal College of Music. I also picked up a trumpet at the age of 6, influenced by my Dad, and went on to a happy career as a horn player. Nothing beats live music!

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

Weddings, pubs, hotels.... any event!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

For a piano set in a hotel- normally I'd be booked for 3 hours and break that down into 3 sets of 40 minutes, with breaks in between. Set up time would be about 30 minutes, depending on the equipment used, the venue and accessibility.
For horn instrumental work, lips don't last as long as hands- so it depends on what is required.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, provided everything is level and there is reasonable weather protection (if needed) and access to plug sockets for piano work is preferable.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I am more than happy to discuss what is required and to come to an agreement.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous customers describe me as "highly adaptable", "down to earth", "professional", "ability to play by ear is phenomenal", "gifted", "not snobby" and "approachable".
