Music Director (Ludlow Choral Society concert accompanied by Sounds Interesting string quartet) 7 Jul 2026
10/10

Dear all

A quick note to say thank you so much for coming across to Ludlow for our concert yesterday .
It was brilliant to hear Kubla Khan with added instrumental colour of the string quartet with percussion and I felt that we gave an exciting performance of this. The choir really appreciated the instrumental support in the other pieces too.

We very much enjoyed the Dunachie quartet movements - many thanks to Anne, Jane, Helen and Hilary for putting those together. It was a pleasure to work with you all.

All the best with the rest of your summer concerts and I hope you can enjoy a summer break at some point too!

Richard (Trout Quintet performance given by Sounds Interesting and friends at St Chad's, Shrewsbury) 7 Jul 2026
10/10

Dear Anne
I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your recent performance of the above at St Chad's in Shrewsbury.
It was a real honour to hear you and your colleagues at the absolute top of your game. I am so glad I made the trip from my home in Buckinghamshire to come and hear you all.
I think what struck me most, was how meticulously well prepared it was. Your attention to all the smallest details of dynamic and phrasing were in evidence right from the very outset. The balance between instruments was superb. As a pianist, I thought Richard's playing was wonderful, drawing out the many colours of that piano. The interaction between the instruments was truly excellent.
Kind regards,
Richard

Hi Anne ( and trio),
Thank you so much for the wonderful performance on our wedding day. So many of our guests commented on how beautifully the live music set the atmosphere.
It's such a shame I didn't get the chance to spend more time with you on the day, but I absolutely loved the music for our entrance, signing, and exit. It made those moments feel even more special and memorable.
Thank you again for being part of our day and helping create such a lovely atmosphere.

I do realise the amount of effort and pressure you are under on a concert day, often coming together for the first time to play the piece in the afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed working with you.

I just wanted to say - again - how much I enjoyed singing with you last night. We all felt completely at ease and supported and FREE throughout, which is such a privileged position to be in, let alone a Messiah with fiendish string writing and only one to a part! It was a joy. Thank you.

Choral Society Music Director and Conductor (Concert with Sounds Interesting String Quartet) 3 Jul 2025
10/10

Dear Anne,
I thought the orchestra was great, especially the strings. Overall they sounded great and there have been many many positive comments!
It is is a really complex work and there were some wonderful moments.
Your violin solo was wonderful and during that whole section the orchestra really captured the mood.
The Prelude was everything that I wanted it to be and the big moments were absolutely thrilling.
The orchestra was great to work with and sounded great. The sonority of Elgar's full orchestration was self-evident. The best range of dynamics I have experienced from them - ever! It is so good to welcome a lot of the same players back over and over again.
Please thank the players for me!

I am just writing to say a huge thanks once again for all of the committee's hard work and support in organising our Brahms Requiem Concert last night- a real masterwork and so beautifully and detailed in its craftsmanship.
I thought the Chamber Orchestra under Anne Tupling's leadership complemented the choir really way, never threatening to obscure or overwhelm the vocal sound but nurturing and supporting in all the best ways.

Conductor, Shrewsbury Cantata choir (Elgar choral concert in Shrewsbury abbey with Sounds Interesting players) 15 Sept 2024
10/10

I want to say a huge thanks to everyone in the orchestra, and particularly to you for being so supportive and sharing your experience and expertise on what has felt like a huge personal journey for me with Gerontius. The most difficult thing about delivering the piece is in managing the demands Elgar makes whilst always being present in the moment and understanding the purpose.
It is a truly unique piece of music and I could not have wished for a more wonderful and confident group of players. They brought fierce resilience, skill, kindness and understanding, and a huge range of expression making anything possible.
Best of all, it felt like we were all working as one team.

Music Director/conductor (Orchestra concert) 18 May 2024
10/10

Dear Anne,
Thank you so much for organising a splendid orchestra for me on Saturday night. Thank you also for your dedication to the music. It is always a pleasure to work with you. You are such an asset to the community! The orchestral players are such a nice bunch of people to work with and it is great to have many of the same players back over and over again.
As usual it was a great pleasure to work with you. Thank you for bringing the Cherubini to life for us. The orchestral colour adds so much to what is a rarely performed work and you did it superbly. We were very privileged to have such a talented pianist for the Tchaikovsky Concerto, which I know is also a challenge for the orchestra to play, especially with only an hour and a quarter to rehearse it! - But we did it and the audience were thrilled - the standing ovation was testament to that.
As ever it was a pleasure to work with you all.
All the best.

Dear Anne,
Huge thanks to you and the orchestra for last night's concert. My hope was to create something joyous and celebratory - Vivaldi and Handel definitely obliged.
Thanks for all your care, support, attention to detail and translation of my expression markings for the players.
I was so pleased - reaction and fire.
Please would you pass on my best wishes and thanks to everyone for being so brilliant.
Thank you,
Tony

Thank you so much for coming to play with 'Sounds Interesting' for our 'Sotto il maestro' concert in Ludlow on Saturday.
You did a wonderful job in very uncomfortable conditions and I really appreciated your professionalism, skill and goodwill. I particularly enjoyed the spirited accompaniment of the Schubert Mass which really captured the joyful character of this work.
Joan Palmer was moved to tears by the performance of 'Upon Clee Hill' so thank you for making her 80th birthday a special occasion.
All the best for your forthcoming performances and I hope we can work together again soon.
Best wishes,
Nicola

Dear Anne
Thank you so much for leading and playing marvellously for yesterday's rehearsals and concert. It was a real privilege to bring this music to life with you all and, particularly for the choir, a really significant shared experience after many months of getting to grips with the challenges of Dona Nobis Pacem. Thanks too for all your time and effort with fixing, communications and logistics over the past year or so... the ratio of admin to minutes of live music continues to astound me!

Sophie and David Charles (Wedding - St Chad Church and Stockton House) 24 Oct 2022

Sounds Interesting String Quartet played at our wedding ceremony on 1st October at St Chad Church and then at our reception at Stockton House afterwards. Not only was their music set fantastic throughout the day (playing both classical and more modern tunes) but they went above and beyond to ensure a special love actually style "All you need is love" performance in the church went off without a hitch!! Throughout the planning process Anne worked tirelessly to ensure everything went smoothly on the day and we could not recommend them more highly for any special occasion!

Hi Anne,
Sorry for the slow reply, it has been a busy week. I am glad they enjoyed it, we really enjoyed the music and many of our guests also commented to us how much their melodious playing had completed the ambiance of the evening, getting us off to a lovely start.
Please pass on our thanks to the quartet for playing, and thanks to you for organising it all.
All the best,
Calum

Dear Anne,

Thank you so much for your beautiful playing and for leading the orchestra for our rehearsal and concert on Saturday. Thanks too for being so helpful during the preparation process over the past few months and for all your emails and messages to players - it makes a real difference.

It's such a treat for the choir to sing with orchestra and the singers seem to have really enjoyed themselves. A number of people (choir, soloists, audience) commented afterwards on how moving the 'Prayer for Ukraine' was.

Looking forward to seeing you in December for the Vaughan Williams programme. Meanwhile, have a wonderful summer.

With best wishes,

Nicola

Where were you on Wednesday 25th May at 6pm? If the answer is anywhere but at Gratot church, you missed a treat!
The people who were in the audience were richly entertained by a trio of talented musicians who freely gave of their time in order to raise funds in support of Ukraine.
The programme was widely varied and featured Irene Donnelly (who sang in four languages, no mean feat ) , hitting some incredibly high notes, and violinist/violist Anne Tupling who played with a mellifluous or exciting tone as demanded by the different genres of music.
The concert started appropriately with Ukrainian folk music by Verchovino, featuring all three performers, in which you could sense the stamping of boots and clapping of hands, portrayed by the strong rhythmic beat. This set the high standard for the rest of the evening.
We were treated to music by composers ranging from Handel to Gershwin, Puccini to Cole Porter, and also to the haunting Ashokan Farewell (written 40 years ago by the American composer, Jay Ungar), played with great sensitivity by Anne. This was possibly my favourite performance in the musical pot pourri.
The evening was a resounding success and raised the wonderful sum of £600 to go to help those who have lost so much.
Thank you for organising the event and bravo to the musicians for a memorable evening. You seemed to enjoy performing as much as we enjoyed listening.
Encore please!

Thank you all for putting on such an enjoyable concert yesterday evening, and please pass on our thanks to the catering team, Margaret, very much appreciated.
It was a real pleasure to listen to you fine musicians.
(I also enjoyed the comedic moments!)
Congratulations on such a good sum raised.
Thank you,
Sylvia

Greetings Anne,
I enjoyed the concert in the church last evening.
There must have been a lot of work to prepare, but well done all. The high point for me was your viola performance, a favourite instrument for me, a rich sound too so appealing.
I hope it was all worth while and the collection worthy of the performances you all gave.
As ever, Stewart

Dear Anne,

Thanks, once again all your hard work in putting together a wonderful orchestra for me and helping to make Saturday Evening such a success. We had great feedback from the audience. It was a pleasure to work with you once again after such a long shutdown. I think everyone was thrilled to be back in action.
There was some really expressive playing - quite an achievement with so little time to rehearse - a testament to professionalism. Loved conducting you all.

Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to the players. They are a really nice group of people to work with!

All the best until next time.
Martin

Dear Anne
I had a great time on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed working with the orchestra and catching up with players from previous concerts.
The orchestra really were responsive – especially the strings – and when rehearsal time is so short I felt that we were able to get straight down to the details which was very good.

I tried something new with the edit as the lighting was very difficult to work with.
I love the first one of you playing ?
Then same edit on the one with you all together.
Finished with a soft black and white one.
I thought you were all stunning and really amazing at what you do.
Take care
