About / Biography

We are one of the South West’s most sought-after professional string quartets. Based in Devon, we regularly perform throughout Devon and Cornwall and across the South West. We also frequently perform in Hampshire, Surrey, and London, and are happy to travel anywhere in the UK to bring our music to your event.

We perform for a wide range of occasions, including corporate events, office parties, garden parties, funerals, military functions, anniversary celebrations, Christmas events, and private gatherings of all kinds. Whatever the setting, we pride ourselves on delivering performances that are vibrant, engaging, and perfectly tailored to each occasion.

Specialising in rock and pop, we don’t play pop songs in a classical style — we perform them with the energy, drive, and authenticity that makes the originals so iconic. Our repertoire features over 4,000 pieces of music, including more than 2,500 rock and pop songs, from legendary classics to modern chart hits. We also cover film and video game music, easy listening, jazz, Christmas favourites, and select classical works, making our playlist the largest and most versatile in the South West.

Over the years, we’ve been privileged to perform for Peter Andre’s wedding, appear on BBC’s The One Show, and play for a special celebration during the filming of BBC’s Poldark—an unforgettable performance aboard the tall ship in Charlestown.

Our goal is simple: to create a unique and personalised musical experience for every client. Whether you’d like an all-pop set, a mix of genres, or something completely bespoke, we’ll craft a soundtrack that perfectly matches the atmosphere of your event. With South West Pop and Rock Strings, you can expect energy, sophistication, and live music that truly stands out.

If using our PA system we need access to one electrical point

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we have our own PA system for when necessary and we have our own musicstand lights

What information do you require about a venue?

To know that there is adequate space for us
To know if there is an indoor space for us to play if it is raining

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We provide live music for the entire time we are booked, we do not play in sets

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

We enjoyed playing for the wedding of pop star Peter Andre and his wife Emily and we were responsible for the arrangements of the ceremony exit flash mob incorporating members of Pete's band.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Choosing just one artist or song? Impossible! How could you ever compare Frank Sinatra with Coolio? We love all music and the energy, emotion, and fun every style brings.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We have been playing together for 20 years and have played for hundreds of weddings, events and sometimes concerts. We play for approximately 60 functions per year . We all studied at prestigious music colleges before entering the music profession.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

We enjoy all types of events. Variety is the spice of life!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We like to be in very good time and arrive at least an hour before we are due to play.

We provide continuous music for the time we are booked. We charge by the section rather than the hour and don't play sets. For instance if you book us for a drinks reception we will play until it is finished

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, as long as it is dry. We are unable to play outside in extreme weather. Luckily, more often than not we do get to play outside. We can also bring our own gazebo if necessary

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Yes, we have an enormous repertoire and you are welcome to choose what you would like.
We do our best to find or arrange any special request for music we don't have.
We are very happy to advise on music choices for clients that aren't sure.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients have often used superlatives such as 'accommodating' 'responsive' fantastic'
They all love our extensive repertoire.

Is amplification necessary?

Not always, but there are occasions when amplification is essential. We’ve used amplification for over 10 years after realising that in certain venues or situations, a purely acoustic quartet simply couldn’t be heard. Factors such as the room size, acoustics, and number of attendees can make amplification necessary. The goal is never to overpower the space, but to gently lift the music so it can be enjoyed while conversation remains possible.
