About us:
After 30 years as a Molecular Biologist (with music always on the side) Molly Craxton wanted to devote her remaining days to spreading joy with music. Molly shares a link of descent with the well known British musicians, Harold and Janet Craxton. For that reason, her musical offerings are labelled with her surname. Molly plays violin and can organise a range of ensembles to play live background music: solo violin, string groups and mixed instrument groups. The string quartet format is ideal, as it can give voice to a vast range of musical ideas and moods. The Craxton String Quartet was born in 2018.
Repertoire:
The Craxton String Quartet are a group of classically trained, musically omnivorous generalists dedicated to professionalism. We will play anything you want in order to convey the right mood for the occasion. Our repertoire list for the year 2026 is laid out in the Sample repertoire box and I can send you a list which includes durations so that you can decide how many items to choose. That list also has links to MP3 files so that you can listen to each item. The repertoire list undergoes annual review during the winter months. Special requests can be accommodated on occasion. Together, we create a bespoke song list for your event by your choosing a selection from our a la carte menu. The up to date repertoire is all available from my website too.

We bring our own stands, chairs and simple lighting. We do not require mains power.
We are not amplified and we have our own battery powered stand lights.
In order to plan how to transport the equipment, is useful to know how easy or complicated it is to access the performance space. Level surfaces make things easier.
We do not supply recorded music.
We expect that the best of everything lies ahead.
We love all music, from the dawn of written music right up to the present day - pitch and rhythm calls to us all.
We bring together four individuals each with their own rich experience of life. Together, we create, with integrity, an appropriate and authentic ambience for each event .
We play best when we can see and hear each other as well as having some contact with the audience in order to pick up the vibes in the moment.
I shall arrive on site one hour prior to the performance start time in order to set up for the band.
We can play outside but require the provision of sun shading. Once on site, we can move from place to place quite easily.
We play your selection of material from our ever increasing menu - we thus offer an "a la carte" service. We can include one or two special requests, given notice of approximately two months.
