About / Biography

The Gold Ring is an instrumental duo playing traditional Celtic music; predominantly Irish, but also some Scottish, Welsh, Breton, Cornish & Manx music.
Their music ranges from beautiful evocative, haunting slow airs, through toe-tapping jigs, to fast exhilarating reels.
Chris Knowles and Ben Walker are two professional musicians who have played together for over 26 years, and they also both play solo. They have performed at numerous festivals, concerts, and also for a very large number of private events such as weddings and corporate events, and have recorded 6 albums together.
In this duo Ben plays uilleann pipes, flutes, whistle and low D whistle, and Chris plays fiddle and Irish bouzouki.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We require a performance space of approx. 2 x 3 metres, a mains power point if we are providing our own P.A., plus 2 armless chairs of normal height. If playing outdoors: minimum temperature 15 degrees C., and we require shelter from any rain, and shade from direct sunlight on our instruments.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We provide our own compact but high quality 200 Watt P.A. system.
We do not provide any lighting equipment.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need the exact location of the venue, and what parking is available.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We do not provide any Spotify or DJ service.

Can you play without amplification?

Yes, all our instruments are acoustic instruments, so we can play without amplification, if the venue is small enough and quiet enough. However, for most larger venues or large audiences, or noisier situations like wedding receptions etc., we do need some amplification for the music to be heard properly. We supply our own high quality P.A. system.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We can usually set up in approx. 20-30 minutes after getting our equipment to the performance area. We normally play 2 sets of 45-55 minutes each, with a break mid-way, or 1 set of 60-75 minutes.
