About / Biography

I have over 30 years experience as a professional saxophonist, with my roots being firmly embedded in the jazz and popular music scene. I spent three years studying at City of Leeds College of music, at which time I was already performing semi-professionally. Following my graduation I went fully professional and began a career which would see me travel all over the world, often performing at high profile events. I have performed at some of the Worlds most prestigeous venue's as a band member, but also featured extensively as a soloist at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, London. I have had the priveledge to share the stage with artists such as Alfie Boe, Gary Barlow, Katherine Jenkins, Ed Sheeran and Shirley Bassey. I have enjoyed performing everything from initmate small jazz ensembles for the Royal family at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, to performing with large orchestras for high profile televised events.

I am now mainly focussing my attention on performing as a soloist where I am specializing in the Ibiza / Dance Sax style. However, I am a versatile musician who can also offer jazz, pop and easy listening for venues and clients where requested.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I have played at many great gigs, but the Queens 90th birthday concert at Windsor Castle will take some beating. I got to perform with an orchestra backing some of my favourite singers including Kylie Minogue and Shirley Bassey. The best venue has to be the Royal Albert Hall in London. I have been priviledged to perform there many times, often as a soloist in front of a large band.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Gerald Albright and Michael Lington have been two of my biggest insprations for their soulful modern jazz saxophone solo's. More recently I have taken great inspiration from LuGotti for his Ibiza / dance vibes.
Gerald Albright performing Against All Odds with the Phil Collins Big Band has to be up there as one of my favourite songs.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I found myself a bit of a musical extrovert early on while playing in the school bands. When I was 17 somebody I was at school with knew somebody in a covers band playing pubs and clubs and they were looking for a new sax player. This opened the door to the popular music scene for me, and my style evolved accordingly.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I love playing at a variety of events, but anywhere with a crowd of people wanting to dance to my music currently gives me the best buzz.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I normally try to arrive 60 minutes before the start time to setup. Normally I perform 2 x 45 minutes sets with a break in-between. I can offer variations, but this is generally the most popular option.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I am more than happy to perform outside, providing that power is provided close by, along with suitable cover in the event of inclemental weather.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Generally I have a set repertoire, but I may be open to accomodate requests, depending if I have the time to prepare accordingly.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Quite simply 'FANTASTIC'
