Worried your guests won’t get up and dance?
That the dance floor might turn into a tumbleweed convention?
That’s exactly where I come in.
I’m Schuggie, the caller behind Schuggies-Ceilidhs — a multi-award-winning ceilidh service with a proper Scottish heart and a modern, inclusive twist.
I’ve an option for a live ceilidh band and one with recorded music. I’m based in the East Midlands and cover the whole of the UK, including the Channel Islands.
My ceilidhs are fun, social and inclusive. They’re designed to get everyone involved from the first dance, whether your guests are seasoned ceilidh ninjas or have never heard the word “ceilidh” in their lives.
So, what actually is my style of ceilidhing?
Think brilliant music, easy-to-follow dances, lots of laughter and a dance floor where nobody needs to know what they’re doing before they start. I call every move as we go, keep the room relaxed, and make sure your guests feel confident joining in.
No awkward swaying by the buffet.
No pressure to be “good” at dancing.
No one left wondering what on earth is happening.
Just a room full of people spinning, laughing, mixing, mingling and making memories together.
I host the night, guide the dances, keep the energy flowing and help everything run smoothly, so you can relax and enjoy watching your guests have an absolute belter of a time.
Ceilidhs are perfect for weddings, parties, corporate events and celebrations where you want people to properly connect — not just sit in their little groups all night.
Your guests won’t just remember the music.
They’ll remember how it felt.

For my solo ceilidh DJ option, I need a trestle table and chair. Access to 2 mains plugs. The same for my live ceilidh band option, but 4 seats.
Full PA system, all PAT certificates, along with two Equinox Crossfire XP disco floor lights.
Will need their risk assessment for the room being used, who their first aider is for the event and where the nearest defib machine is located.
Yes and a wind-down DJ set after the ceilidh- all included in the package fees.
It’s prevalent these days for venues to have these put in place due to local council licensing regulations⚠️
I’m used to working with these, so don’t tend to have any issues – except for if the crowd cheer too loudly! It’s essential that the Caller can be heard clearly over the other instruments, so the music tends to be a bit quieter than your standard rock band.
For my packages with bands, they can play completely acoustic without amplification. That is great as well for outdoor celebrations
As a reference level, my ceilidhs at the loudest reach about 85db, so well within sound limiter restrictions📢
The best gig I've ever done was in Edinburgh Castle when a Scottish guy married a lassie from NYC. Best venue goes to Edinburgh Castle, but Warwick Castle, and London Zoo are very colse seconds.
This is a hard one; my heart is folk, but my soul is metal.
So think Andy Chung, Proclaimers, Runrig, Ferocious Dog and Greenman Rising, then merging into AC/DC, Iron Maiden, The Almighty and Metallica.
This is a story we should have with a wee drammie.
I love weddings, I love hearing from my couple how their guests still rave about their wedding years after.
It’s your day, so you can have what you want and what you feel most comfortable with.
Some couples love the thrill of that first dance. Others cringe🤯, filling them with dread, taking away some of the sparkle you should have on your wedding day.
You can have a ceilidh first dance either as a couple or why not get all your guests up and have them all join in? Your guests will love this and be raving about it long after your big day🎉
You can book a ceilidh chat here to discuss what’s involved, how it works and answer your questions. Ideally, both of you should be available.
It isn’t a sales call- it’s for you to find out more about how I can host a ceilidh for the entertainment on your big day.
Yes certainly. I host regular open ceilidh evenings in the East Midlands between September and late April. You can just rock up to these, no need to book. These vary with either solo ceilidhs (similar to my Ceilidh-DJ package) using recorded music, or calling with various live bands that I work with. You can check out the date on my @Nottingham Ceilidh Club page.
I also get booked for a variety of fundraising events, village festivals and celebrations (like Burns, St Patrick’s and St Andrews). So plenty of opportunities to come along and give it a go.
You can read through my testimonials✨, which will reassure you that your entertainment is in safe hands. These are on my Google My Business page, Facebook Review sections and grouped here on Pinterest.
You can book a ceilidh chat💬here to discuss what’s involved and how it works, along with answering your questions.
If you want to organise your own ceilidh party, book a chat here about having one.
We can talk through what’s involved.
Yes, I’m based in the East Midlands (Nottingham), so that means any additional charge will be included in your final quote.
Travel costs for the East Midlands (NG, DE and LE post codes) are included in the relevant package fees.
Outside of the East Midlands, the travel costs are £0.55p per mile and £20 per hour of travel time.
I work with some amazing ceilidh musicians around the country, so very often there is only the cost of my travelling from Nottingham.
Absolutely not!
Ceilidhs are very popular; it’s the social side that sets them apart from your disco type of entertainment. You don’t need to be Scottish, have any Celtic roots or even wear a kilt.
It really is just a great form of fun, social and inclusive🌈 entertainment to have at your wedding and something different your guests will love!
Also, I dont use Genders when I call the dances, so think Lions🦁and Penguins🐧rather than Ladies and Gentlemen- everyone feels comfortable with who they dance with, and it adds to the hilarity of the dancing.
Usually an hour or so to set up and around 2 1/2 hours of dancing with a break in the middle. This is followed up with a wind-down disco into the wee small hours. All are included in the package fee.
Yes, my Public Liability Insurance covers me for this
Within reason, yes, but they should be easy Scottish ceilidh dances so beginners are comfortable joining in.
An amazing experience. We were very impressed with all the details, from providing fun hats for the guests to helping guests who have never done a ceilidh before feel comfortable. Making the evening stress-free for my partner and me as everything went smoothly. It was so easy to work with Schuggie as he is so experienced and covered all bases before the event.
