About / Biography

The Hound Dogs are one of the UK’s most sought-after professional party bands, performing over 100 high-octane shows a year for weddings, corporate galas, and private celebrations.

With a vast repertoire spanning from the 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll era to modern chart-toppers, we play with incredible energy and a "big-stage" sound. Expect to hear hits from The Beatles to The Killers, Elvis Presley to The Kings of Leon—all delivered with a level of musicianship and flair that keeps the dance floor packed from the first note.

Our mission is simple: to provide world-class entertainment while taking the stress out of your day. We handle everything with professional precision, leaving you to enjoy the party.

Unrivalled Vocal Versatility

What truly sets The Hound Dogs apart is lead vocalist Nigel Thomas. While many singers offer a generic "approximation" of a song, Nigel has an innate ability to capture the specific vocal style, intonation, and character of the original artists. Whether it’s a soulful ballad or a gritty rock anthem, the authenticity of the sound is what makes our performances so captivating.

Professional, Reliable & Self-Contained

We pride ourselves on being punctual, polite, and sharply dressed. The band is fully self-contained, providing a professional-grade PA system and an impressive lighting rig suitable for any venue, from intimate halls to large-scale marquees and outdoor stages.

For your peace of mind:

  • Total Reliability: You will have a dedicated band contact available to answer questions at any time.

  • Compliance: All equipment is PAT tested, and we hold full Public Liability Insurance (£10m), meeting the requirements of all major UK venues.

Flexible Lineups to Suit Your Event

While our signature sound is our "Killer 5-Piece" (Two Guitars, Bass, Drums, Keys, and 4 Vocals), we are highly adaptable:

  • The 7-Piece Showband: For a truly spectacular sound, we can scale up to our 7-piece lineup, featuring brass and additional vocals.

  • Acoustic Sets: Looking for a sophisticated atmosphere for your drinks reception? We offer live acoustic sets to set the perfect mood.

Professional DJ Service

Keep the momentum going late into the night! We offer a versatile DJ service to bridge the gaps between our live sets and keep the party moving until the small hours. We are always happy to take requests and can tailor the playlist to your specific tastes.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We're entirely self-sufficient with high end PAT tested equipment. All we need are at least two sockets.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we’re completely self contained. We bring our own PA system to all of our gigs as well as stage lighting.

What information do you require about a venue?

Just if there's a sound limiter and what level it's set.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we can play a set party playlist or you can provide your own. We also offer a manned DJ service and can take requests etc for £220.

My venue has a sound limiter—can you still play?

Yes, absolutely. We are very experienced in working with sound limiters. Because we use professional-grade digital mixing and high-quality monitoring, we can manage our volume effectively without losing the 'energy' of the performance. We always respect the venue's requirements while ensuring your guests still get a fantastic live experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

This is a tough one - but a recent gig playing in northern Italy was a highlight, playing an afternoon acoustic set overlooking the most beautiful vineyard followed by a night of playing full band under the stars!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Too many to mention, though we're all big fans of The Beatles (hence all the harmionies when we play!)

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We're all full time professional musicians, busy doing session work, writing and recording when not gigging live across the UK and abroad.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

Our favourite type of event is one, big or small, where there's an appreciative audience with their dancing shoes on.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Our goal is to be as discreet as possible while preparing for the party.

Arrival & Setup: We typically arrive between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. From the moment we unload, it takes us approximately 60 to 90 minutes to be fully set up and soundchecked. We are experts at working around venue schedules to ensure our soundcheck doesn't interrupt your speeches or dinner.

Performance Times: Our standard performance consists of 2 x 60-minute sets or better still, 1x45 mins and 1 x 85 min set depending on your evening's flow.

The Gaps: Between our live sets, we provide background music (or our professional DJ service if booked) so there is never a 'silence' on the dance floor.

If you have a specific schedule in mind or require an afternoon acoustic set, just let us know—we are always happy to tailor our timings to suit your big day.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes! We just need a level, covered surface and protection in case of rain.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely! We want the music to reflect your personality and we love hearing which songs from our repertoire are your 'must-haves.'

When you book us, we encourage you to look through our song list and highlight your absolute favorites (and any you’d rather we didn't play!). However, we do recommend against a strictly dictated, song-by-song setlist. With over 15 years of experience, our real strength lies in 'reading the room'—sensing the energy of your guests and knowing exactly when to play a classic anthem or a modern floor-filler to keep the party at its peak.

By giving us a sense of your taste while allowing us the flexibility to choose the order on the night, you get the best of both worlds: a personalized soundtrack and a packed dancefloor from start to finish.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

From our many glowing Facebook reviews, clients most commonly describe our performances as high-energy with packed dance floors all night, appealing to all age groups from children to grandparents. They emphasize our professionalism and easy communication, and frequently mention we were "the best decision" or "the highlight" of their wedding or event. The phrase "all our guests commented on how good you were" appears in nearly every review - we consistently become the talking point of the celebration.

How do you handle songs by so many different artists?

One of our biggest 'secret weapons' is the vocal versatility of our lead singer, Nigel Thomas. Rather than singing every song in a generic style, Nigel has an innate ability to capture the specific intonation and character of the original artists—from the grit of rock 'n' roll legends to the polish of modern pop stars. It means our covers don't just sound like a band 'playing a song,' they feel like the real deal.

What happens if a band member is ill on the day?

In over 15 years of performing, we have never cancelled a show. We have a 'first-call' network of elite professional musicians who know our set inside out. If a member were unable to perform due to an emergency, we would provide a world-class replacement who meets our exacting standards, ensuring your party goes ahead seamlessly.

Do you offer music for the whole day, or just the evening?

We can take care of your entire soundtrack from start to finish. Many couples book our Solo or Duo Acoustic sets for their drinks reception to create a relaxed afternoon vibe, followed by the full band in the evening, and finally our Professional DJ service to keep the party going until 1:00 AM. Booking everything through one band makes your planning much simpler and ensures a consistent high quality of music throughout.
