Review Centre: Singers (Pop/Rock)

"If you haven't seen Grace before, or if it's a while since you last saw her, you're in for a nice surprise. It's unusual to witness anyone who can silence an audience with their ability to play, sing and visually entertain. A small crowd of music lovers in a tastefully furnished bar in the back streets of St Albans, we were there to listen and to be part of the moment. Grace and pretention don't mix. Maybe she has the most apt name of anyone you'll ever see play live. (Actually, Joy would have worked too.) You can tell that she adores what she does; while there's the odd moment of wild abandonment in Grace's performance, her poise is unshakeable and the music is always from the soul and shared with passion. Grace plays with a pair of mics and a dual pedal-based multi-layered loop station. Her songs build, bar by bar, making it fascinating not only to hear, but to see, live music being created in front of you. She played a few covers with the loop station, but her own songs, some of which were played live, some with original backing tracks, stood out too. I'd say that Grace's vocal control is amongst the best I've heard: strong and confident but comfortable and warming all at the same time. The guitar playing was tasteful, rhythmic and melodic. No keyboard this time, but to be honest, we didn't miss it. Grace handled us - including a rather bizarre heckler - with gentle skill and natural humour. Next time you question your existence whilst sitting on your TV sofa, remember two important things: that there's an invention called catch-up TV on the Internet, and that an evening spent with Grace G is a rare opportunity not to be missed."

"Graham and his trusty guitar provided fantastic entertainment for us and our guest on our wedding day. He played acoustically during our drinks reception and got the guests involved by asking them to select the next song from his 'lucky dip' hat which was brilliant! His song selection was spot on and perfectly mirrored the sunny, relaxed vibe of the day. He also played one of our favourite songs Elbow's One Day Like This during the wedding ceremony and even agreed to learn and play our first dance song Bonfire Heart by James Blunt which was really special. Graham is a true professional and an absolute gentleman and we would recommend his musical services without reservation. "

"I hired Will to play in the park while I proposed to my girlfriend and simply put he was spectacular. He played a set of acoustic songs and they all sounded amazing! He was also flexible and accommodating of when I needed him to be in the park, and of what songs I wanted him to play (He even learned songs that were not on his song list!). I would highlight recommend Will and I look forward to being able to see him play in a more formal setting, 10 of 10! Thanks again Will!"

"I loved watching Phil perform. He is really unique and brings something different every time. I usually get bored watching singers but he keeps me interested throughout his whole performance. He stole the stage and had a great balance between being professional and having fun interacting with the audience! His voice is so unique, you would instantly know it was him if you heard it! "Sandy Smith once again took the roof off of the Frazer Theatre in Knaresborough last night. Her powerful voice genuinely rocked the venue with her tribute to Cilla Black in the first half and a walk down Memory Lane in the 60s for the second half. The Knaresborough crowd is usually quite reserved but the second half in particular had both the floor boards and the ceiling looking in danger of collapse. Sandy is not just a singer, she is a supreme entertainer with a genuine warmth that few performers can claim to have. This show is a must for any fan of the 60s era and her tribute to Cilla is both memorable and informative. A superb night of first class entertainment."
